About

Having traveled part of the globe to demonstrate the richness of our culture and our traditions, the idea of creating Sagamité was born from the desire to make known our beautiful culture at home in Wendake.

The Sagamité Restaurant in Wendake was founded in 1999 and since then, we have been welcoming local, regional and worldwide customers curious to discover our culture through a gastronomic experience. The name of the restaurant testifies to this by its name; for the Wendat, Sagamité was at the heart of our diet. It is a soup-meal enriched with game where we find the famous “Three Sisters”: squash, corn and red beans, that we cultivate.

Since July 2019, the Sagamité Vieux-Québec restaurant has been introducing First Nations gastronomy to visitors to the historic district of Québec.

The Sagamité restaurant has traced the path of Aboriginal gastronomy, which we have demystified over time thanks to game. It is an establishment of choice for a clientele curious to live a gourmet and cultural experience at the same time.

Beautiful place with amazing food! 6 of us went for dinner & everything was great- especially the onion soup, deer & elk medallions, bison ribs & 3 antlers which was also fun in its presentation. The service was excellent & they made some excellent recommendations as it was our first time here. Would highly recommend for anyone in the area!

What an experience. Had the 3 meat dinner (venison, elk, bison). It was lit before us & served with a plate of delicious veggies. The squash was so flavourful. The server was attentive & explained the menu in English. We were so grateful. Spoke to our daughter in French & English to work on her conversation skills. She enjoyed the chicken fingers. So thankful for the kids options with such an elaborate menu. Thank you for an amazing dinner in the historical city.

We were so thrilled to try new cuisine & Sagamité did not disappoint! The Sagamité soup may have stolen the show, the broth was incredible. The elk flank steak was also delicious, but I still think about that soup LOL. Our waitress taught us about the food, the Wendak people, & the history of the First Nations people & their struggle & triumph & we are so thankful they are here to share their heritage & cuisine with us. Plus they made a perfect bloody Ceaser!

best meal we had in Québec by far! since they specialized in meats that most restaurants here do not serve, we had to try as many as possible. the elk & deer medallions were tender & super flavorful. we appreciated that it was not over seasoned & that we could taste the difference in meats. the short ribs of homademade smoke bison was tender & fall off the bone. the fries were super generous & the gravy the accompanied the short rib was excellent. the beef & venison tartare were super unique & delicious, definitely a must try. & the walleye fillet was cooked to perfection with a sweet cranberry sauce that complimented the dish perfectly. we also go the sagamite soup which was a nice lighter option, still loaded with meat & beans, to switch up the heavier options on our table. highly highly recommend this restaurant when in old quebec city!

i'd recommend making a reservation

This restaurant offers a selection of meals made with game meat (especially deer, elk, & bison). The taste of the meat is truly amazing. The variety of game dishes is impressive-you can even find game meat pizzas, & there's game meat spaghetti for the kids (& yes, there's one for adults too 😉).

We received truly exceptional service from Joëlle. Thank you so much for your warm welcome & for these dishes with such outstanding flavor.

P.S. What I didn't expect: the brownie was the best I've ever had, & the coffee was also great. What a fantastic dinner we had! Thank you!

When I first encountered this restaurant it seemed to me that the whole'First Nations food' thing was something of a gimmick that allowed them to charge higher prices. Tonight we decided to go back & actually dine there. I couldn't have been more wrong. The food is outstanding & quite varied.

We opted to go with the three antlers (deer, elk, & bison). It is presented in a very unique way: the pieces of meat are lightly cooked then attached to spokes on a hot stone. The arrangement is doused with brandy & lighted. The meat pieces are accompanied by three flavored mayonnaises. Along with this was a plate with a piece of potato casserole (outstanding - be absolutely sure you get some of this), a roasted carrot, a piece of broccoli & pureed butternut squash, & a selection of breads.

We perhaps let the venison cook a little too long before removing it from the stone as it was just a little overcooked. It had a great venison flavor. As soon as we tasted the venison, we hurriedly removed the rest of the meat from the rock. The elk was flavorful with no gamey taste, tender & juicy. The bison was completely outstanding. I would go back for just the bison & potatoes, but am thankful I got the three meat selection.

For dessert we had the maple pie. It was good, had a distinct maple flavor, but was kind of unidimensional / unlike everything else we had there. When paired with the berries decorating the plate the depth appeared to create something special.

Don't miss this place! It's not a gimmick. You will truly thank yourself for stopping in. It was obvious the chef was passionate about the dishes he created.

The food was super tasty, the waitstaff were super kind, helpful & patient. If traveling with toddlers or young kids, you should make reservations between 5-6. We showed up at 5:30 which was great since it meant our toddler wasn't too disruptive (it was starting to get busy by 6:30 when we left). We placed a special order of cherry tomato's for our toddler (she loves cherry tomato's) & they were super kind & responsive. I ordered the bison short ribs. The meat melted in your mouth. Other people order the elk & caribou medillons & they were super tasty as well. My wife ordered the bison ravioli but they didn't have any on hand & served her the tortellini instead. The tortellini & sauce was super good but you couldn't really taste the meat.

Very good experience. The Deer & Elk was delicious & tender. The side vegetables of carrot & broccoli were cooked nicely with a bit of bite. The creamy potatoes were amazing.
Great wine selection (we even found our local Portuguese wine) at a reasonable price.
We would happily return next time we are in Québec

My partner & I decided to eat here for our anniversary seeing that the food is indigenous inspired. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a great & chill atmosphere. Our server was super friendly & very helpful with the menu & any questions we had.

We ordered the tartare & the 5 course meal. Wow. The food was amazing. It was very filling & flavorful. I loved the salad that had a sweet apple sauce dressing. We also loved the elk & deer.

Definitely my top favorite places to go.

Lovely evening at this restaurant. Lots of choice, & a chance to try some meats that we don't normally see. Unlike other reviewers, I was not a fan of the maple pie, but the terrines (elk & duck) were delicious.
