About us

Having traveled part of the globe to demonstrate the richness of our culture and our traditions, the idea of creating Sagamité was born from the desire to make known our beautiful culture at home in Wendake.

The Sagamité Restaurant in Wendake was founded in 1999 and since then, we have been welcoming local, regional and worldwide customers curious to discover our culture through a gastronomic experience. The name of the restaurant testifies to this by its name; for the Wendat, Sagamité was at the heart of our diet. It is a soup-meal enriched with game where we find the famous “Three Sisters”: squash, corn and red beans, that we cultivate.

Since July 2019, the Sagamité Vieux-Québec restaurant has been introducing First Nations gastronomy to visitors to the historic district of Québec.

The Sagamité restaurant has traced the path of Aboriginal gastronomy, which we have demystified over time thanks to game. It is an establishment of choice for a clientele curious to live a gourmet and cultural experience at the same time.

Review Summary

Sagamité offers a unique and memorable culinary experience centered on traditional First Nations cuisine in Old Quebec City. Many guests praise the exceptional quality of wild game meats, such as elk, bison, and venison, noting that dishes like the signature soup, the flambéed meats, and the maple pie are highlights of their visit. The restaurant features a warm, authentic atmosphere complemented by attentive and knowledgeable service that often adds a personal touch to the celebration of indigenous culture. While some visitors find the pricing reflects a premium experience and occasional service delays have occurred, the majority view it as an essential, high-quality dining destination for those seeking flavors deeply rooted in Canadian history.

Very good experience. The Deer & Elk was delicious & tender. The side vegetables of carrot & broccoli were cooked nicely with a bit of bite. The creamy potatoes were amazing.
Great wine selection (we even found our local Portuguese wine) at a reasonable price.
We would happily return next time we are in Québec

My partner & I decided to eat here for our anniversary seeing that the food is indigenous inspired. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a great & chill atmosphere. Our server was super friendly & very helpful with the menu & any questions we had.

We ordered the tartare & the 5 course meal. Wow. The food was amazing. It was very filling & flavorful. I loved the salad that had a sweet apple sauce dressing. We also loved the elk & deer.

Definitely my top favorite places to go.

Lovely evening at this restaurant. Lots of choice, & a chance to try some meats that we don't normally see. Unlike other reviewers, I was not a fan of the maple pie, but the terrines (elk & duck) were delicious.

Service & food was great. Had the three antlers meal & was not disappointed (except that it finished). I recommend trying Sagamite out if in the area & interested in trying deer, bison, elk etc.

This was such a lovely place to stop for dinner! The waiter was very informative & helped me pick a very interesting meal that included deer, elk & Buffalo meat, all of which was delicious. The sides were thoughtfully prepared too, & the dessert was delicious. I also felt that everything was very reasonably priced for the quality, though I did choose a more expensive meal.

We happened on to Sagamite looking for a light lunch. It was it busy & we were quickly seated. Wow, the decor is spectacular with totem poles, canoe & some great paintings. It focuses of food from the First Nation. We shared the appetizer of pastry with venison & elk. It was very good with a tasty sauce. A unique & special restaurant.

Loved the indigenous slant to the menu. We had elk terrine & potted duck confit with toast, & the salad with duck confit - they were very similar to similar dishes we'd had in the Dordogne Valley in France. The venison steak & the deer & elk medallions were delicious, & the staff were uniformly kind & knowledgeable.

F as may dining with interesting game meat & of course a high price. Nice ambiance & good services. The flame plate with deer, bison & elk was nice & presented well. The maple pie was ok but not as special as expected. Veggies on the plate unfortunately didn't look too fresh. Nice try to nice a while.

Wonderful restaurant. The staff really know there stuff took me through the menu. Very knowledgeable about all the items & how to enjoy them. I went for the set menu. Everything was great, & the main course of Elk, Venison, & bison flambéed on a hot stone tripod was such a deligh. I love the fact you can finish the meat to your own level of'rareness'. I was well fed but still found room for the maple pie which was a brilliant finish to a great meal. Absolutely amazed by this place, if you are in Old Quebec then check them out.
