About us

Having traveled part of the globe to demonstrate the richness of our culture and our traditions, the idea of creating Sagamité was born from the desire to make known our beautiful culture at home in Wendake.

The Sagamité Restaurant in Wendake was founded in 1999 and since then, we have been welcoming local, regional and worldwide customers curious to discover our culture through a gastronomic experience. The name of the restaurant testifies to this by its name; for the Wendat, Sagamité was at the heart of our diet. It is a soup-meal enriched with game where we find the famous “Three Sisters”: squash, corn and red beans, that we cultivate.

Since July 2019, the Sagamité Vieux-Québec restaurant has been introducing First Nations gastronomy to visitors to the historic district of Québec.

The Sagamité restaurant has traced the path of Aboriginal gastronomy, which we have demystified over time thanks to game. It is an establishment of choice for a clientele curious to live a gourmet and cultural experience at the same time.

Review Summary

Sagamité offers a unique and memorable culinary experience centered on traditional First Nations cuisine in Old Quebec City. Many guests praise the exceptional quality of wild game meats, such as elk, bison, and venison, noting that dishes like the signature soup, the flambéed meats, and the maple pie are highlights of their visit. The restaurant features a warm, authentic atmosphere complemented by attentive and knowledgeable service that often adds a personal touch to the celebration of indigenous culture. While some visitors find the pricing reflects a premium experience and occasional service delays have occurred, the majority view it as an essential, high-quality dining destination for those seeking flavors deeply rooted in Canadian history.

It was an amazing fine dining experience; great atmosphere, very friendly staff & fresh, great quality & splendid taste. We came here as a group & tried many of the menu items, but most of us ordered "Yatista" which includes Venison Puff Pastry, Sagamité Soup or Warm Duck Salad, Maple Pie, tea or coffee. For your meat, you have the option between shrimp, filet mignon, deer & elk or deer & elk & chef's choice (which was bison at that time). I strongly recommend Yatista as it's a very unique experience where they cook the meat to medium rare, & serve it on a hot stone; once they put it on fire, you can adjust it to your liking. Everything was very delicious; soup, duck salad & of course the pie. My favorite meat was bison & then elk.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner, we were here visiting all the way from New Jersey USA. It was our first time trying native American style food & I would say 98% of it we enjoyed! There was one dish we weren't particularly a fan of the taste but we loved the duck salad, deer/elk/bison dish cooked over the flame & the maple pie were all delicious! Our host Robert was also amazing, he kindly kept the restaurant open a bit longer for us to dine for dinner. He's very attentive & helpful explaining the menu to us & making suggestions. He was very friendly & welcoming, a great server to our experience! The restaurant has a great atmosphere & would recommend any one to try it out & have a great experience as we did. Thank you again!

Chez Sagamite in historic Old Quebec is a delight. The service was great & the food was fantastic. The restaurant represents a bit of a fusion between the French & the Native Indian population with many dishes including elk, venison, & bison. My wife started with their excellent house soup which includes the three meats plus corn, squash & beans. I enjoyed a cream of cauliflower soup. She followed with surf & turf with a delicious mushroom based dipping sauce. I recommend the spaghetti with venison, bison & elk. Pair all of this with a bottle of Pinot noir & finish with their phenomenal maple pie (it is Canada after all!). You can't go wrong by choosing this place for dinner! Business casual attire is just fine. You will need a reservation though.
