About us

Having traveled part of the globe to demonstrate the richness of our culture and our traditions, the idea of creating Sagamité was born from the desire to make known our beautiful culture at home in Wendake.

The Sagamité Restaurant in Wendake was founded in 1999 and since then, we have been welcoming local, regional and worldwide customers curious to discover our culture through a gastronomic experience. The name of the restaurant testifies to this by its name; for the Wendat, Sagamité was at the heart of our diet. It is a soup-meal enriched with game where we find the famous “Three Sisters”: squash, corn and red beans, that we cultivate.

Since July 2019, the Sagamité Vieux-Québec restaurant has been introducing First Nations gastronomy to visitors to the historic district of Québec.

The Sagamité restaurant has traced the path of Aboriginal gastronomy, which we have demystified over time thanks to game. It is an establishment of choice for a clientele curious to live a gourmet and cultural experience at the same time.

Review Summary

Sagamité offers a unique and memorable culinary experience centered on traditional First Nations cuisine in Old Quebec City. Many guests praise the exceptional quality of wild game meats, such as elk, bison, and venison, noting that dishes like the signature soup, the flambéed meats, and the maple pie are highlights of their visit. The restaurant features a warm, authentic atmosphere complemented by attentive and knowledgeable service that often adds a personal touch to the celebration of indigenous culture. While some visitors find the pricing reflects a premium experience and occasional service delays have occurred, the majority view it as an essential, high-quality dining destination for those seeking flavors deeply rooted in Canadian history.

Nice place for lunch

Went here 3x for breakfast due to a hotel coupon. My strong plea to the business owner is to hire/schedule more staff!

The servers are doing the best they can but one server for a full restaurant is impossible. First day, we waited 20mins in line just to be seated despite there being plenty of open tables because the single server couldn't clean/bus those empty tables & seat customers while also taking orders & running food. Including that, our breakfast took 1.5hrs in total. We joked about needing breakfast before going to breakfast, it took so long. Second day was better, only a small wait & fewer customers, but the yogurt with meusli is actually vanilla yogurt with corn flakes.

The third day (today), my omelette was burnt black. After waiting so long to be seated & for coffee & for food, I didn't bother sending it back & instead just ate the potatoes & toast that came with it. I have a hard time wondering what went through the cook's mind sending out eggs that were literally blackened, let alone the mouldy grapes on my husband's plate.

None of this is the fault of the serving staff who are obviously trying their best (tip your waiter even with a breakfast coupon!). Please, restaurant owner, your breakfast rush is too busy for one person in the kitchen & one person in front of house. Do better.

This place is a hidden gem, & honestly I'm baffled it's not packed every night. First Nations restaurants are rare enough; ones that serve traditional game like deer, elk, & bison? You can count them on one hand, globally. That alone makes this worth seeking out.
I ordered the house special, a trio of elk, deer, & bison, & it was flawless. Each meat perfectly seasoned, cooked to a rosy medium rare, letting the wild, earthy flavors speak for themselves. The service matched: warm, genuine, & genuinely funny. If you're in town, this isn't just dinner. It's an experience

I loved the food but my waiter, Pasquel was terrible & I regret leaving a 15 percent tip just because the lady who was helping him out was nice. I asked him to speak to me in English because I do not speak French so he ignored me & just spoke to my friend in French. My order was wrong & he went to fix it but didn't apologize but just said oops it was wrong & came back with the correct dish. I wasn't asked how the food was & never got a refill on water, which I drink a lot of on top of the soft drink I ordered. My friend had to go & ask him to come over the last 15 min of the meal to get water. I finally left because I was angry. I should have just left a penny & a note of tips to improve his service.
