About us

Having traveled part of the globe to demonstrate the richness of our culture and our traditions, the idea of creating Sagamité was born from the desire to make known our beautiful culture at home in Wendake.

The Sagamité Restaurant in Wendake was founded in 1999 and since then, we have been welcoming local, regional and worldwide customers curious to discover our culture through a gastronomic experience. The name of the restaurant testifies to this by its name; for the Wendat, Sagamité was at the heart of our diet. It is a soup-meal enriched with game where we find the famous “Three Sisters”: squash, corn and red beans, that we cultivate.

Since July 2019, the Sagamité Vieux-Québec restaurant has been introducing First Nations gastronomy to visitors to the historic district of Québec.

The Sagamité restaurant has traced the path of Aboriginal gastronomy, which we have demystified over time thanks to game. It is an establishment of choice for a clientele curious to live a gourmet and cultural experience at the same time.

Review Summary

Sagamité offers a unique and memorable culinary experience centered on traditional First Nations cuisine in Old Quebec City. Many guests praise the exceptional quality of wild game meats, such as elk, bison, and venison, noting that dishes like the signature soup, the flambéed meats, and the maple pie are highlights of their visit. The restaurant features a warm, authentic atmosphere complemented by attentive and knowledgeable service that often adds a personal touch to the celebration of indigenous culture. While some visitors find the pricing reflects a premium experience and occasional service delays have occurred, the majority view it as an essential, high-quality dining destination for those seeking flavors deeply rooted in Canadian history.

Une soupe trop cher pour un peu de maïs & un bouillon avec un peu de viande
Un ribs minuscule mal décongelé servi froid qui ne saura pas satisfaire un bon mangeur

Meh. It's not terrible, just kinda expensive considering how meh the food was. Not good, not bad, just meh.

In town for a business meeting & our hosts reserved Sagamite for a no host dinner gathering. If you like game meat, or even if you just want to try it, this is your place! I had the bison & it melted in my mouth. Everyone in our party raved about their food as well. The indigenous decor was beautiful & the service was impeccable, especially considering our party size of 30+. Highly recommended.

The place was nearly empty when we went there, but I don't why since the food was great. It is on the more expensive side of restaurants in Quebec city but I think it is worth it - it was the only one we found with food that takes inspirarion from the food of the indiginous people, so it was a super cool experience.
