Bistro Hortus is a gem found near Old Quebec. I wish I had discovered it on my first dayso that I could have gone back for more meals. It is entirely gluten free, but not in a way that is noticeable to others. They had fresh ingredients with Quebec/French classics like poutine & Croque Madame. We enjoyed both along with both red & non-alcoholic sangrias.

This charming restaurant features a menu with farm-to-table style cuisine! All of the ingredients are fresh & mostly curated from their rooftop gardens! Local honey is also sold here, which they maintain in their gardens.
The food is delicious! With complimentary flavors across all dishes, you are in for a culinary treat when you dine here!
The staff is warm & welcoming, our group was spoiled by the generous hospitality! I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant during your visit to Quèbec City!

We ate here 4 times on our trip to QC. Super fresh local farm to table ingredients. The only thing you could even tell was gluten free was the hamburger bun. The fig bread with the Quebec cheeses was the best I've had in 10 years of extensive gluten free travel. The desserts were great. Loved the entire experience.

A very unique & special dinner in Quebec City. The Bistro Hortus prides itself on locally sourced ingredients & a menu that is exclusively crafted around both Gluten Free & Nut Free .

We had made reservations weeks in advance as I had heard it gets very busy & reservations are highly recommended.

Upon arrival we were greeted & immediately shown to our table . Our waitress explained the philosophy of the restaurant & took our ordered . Cocktails included locally sourced ingredients & local artisanal gin. Both delicious .

Appetizer we got a fresh goat cheese platter with GF crackers & grilled zucchini. Honey drizzled over goat cheese is their own harvest. Great combination of flavors .

Main dishes we got a vegetarian dish with Beluga lentils , smoked tofu & roasted squash. Truly special dish packed with flavor & good healthy fiber . Also as a main the organically raised chicken was juicy & well seasoned . Accompanied by an array of vegetables including beets , carrots & sweet potatoes with a homemade BBQ sauce that had hints of honey . Definitely a memorable plate .

The entire dessert menu is also Gluten Free which is often a rarity at restaurants. We tried the pudding Chomeur which is a moist cake soaked in a hot caramel sauce that soaks up into the cake . On top of that was an organic maple syrup ice cream that tied everything together . Warm cake & ice cream : a dream of flavors .

The staff was great . Fast & accommodating by explaining the menu & making recommendations.

You can tell the owners take pride in this farm to table plus locally sourced ingredients restaurant .

Great job to the team of Bistro Hortus .

Lovely restaurant with many unique dishes reflecting the local region. All the servings were huge; we did not finish our main courses. The charcuterie appetiser of local meats & cheeses was outstanding (although it should come with fresh French bread instead of tasteless, hard toast/cracker things), as was the poutine with duck breast. Local, innovative & delicious. The tables are a bit too close to each other if you get a loud party near you; we had two. People really need to more self aware of their volume.

Inspirational & delicious. This is local restaurant that emphasizes a farm-to-table freshness in its ingredients. The setting has outdoor dining in Old Quebec & a beautiful indoor seating. As a traveler on the go, I had the Quebec trout. It was delicious.

This brilliantly created establishment elevates cusine to the highest level with a carefree, yet calculated approach. We found it online as one of few farm to table restaurants in this heavily touristed area of Quebec City. We went in not knowing at the time that it was a completely gluten free environment. After reviewing the menu I had some concern, but kept an open mind, glad I did. There was no chance of disappointment here. A well crafted meal was presented to us with style & flare, yet simple & fresh in its ingredient selections. Fresh everything, including honey off the comb! Don't miss an opportunity to be pleasantly surprised!
