AFFAMÉS D’HISTOIRE?

Le 160, rue Saint-Paul s’est toujours avéré un lieu où les ingrédients et le service de qualité supérieurs font la loi. Fondé en 1860 par Narcisse Rioux, le magasin général Chez Rioux & Pettigrew fournissait aux restaurateurs, aux épiciers, aux hôpitaux et aux communautés religieuses une grande variété de produits locaux ou d’importation.

Barils de mélasse, poches de farine, sucre, gruau, fruits et légumes en conserves, épices, noix, raisins secs, chocolat, bonbons présentés sur des étalages… On y trouvait même de l’alcool jusqu’à la création de la Commission des liqueurs en 1921!

I recently dined at this fancy restaurant & had a bit of an intimidating experience at first. The knowledgeable waiter went to great effort explaining the different ways to order off the menu, which was a bit overwhelming. However, this is something we had become accustomed to at other higher calibre joints we had previously eaten at in Quebec City. The atmosphere of the restaurant was busy but really cool. We had the unique experience of walking through the kitchen to our table, seeing the chefs in action as they prepared plates. It added to the overall ambiance of the place. The bread served at this restaurant is absolutely tremendous. It's definitely worth trying. Since I was still a bit full from lunch, I decided to skip ordering an appetizer. For my main course, I opted for the Les Crevettes du Chef Sont-Elle Seches ou Archiseches. It consisted of homemade black pudding, sautéed shrimps, spicy shrimp ravioli, grilled peppers, crab bisque, & pepper coulis. Although it wasn't my first choice (I wanted the lamb), I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the black pudding. It exceeded my expectations, & one of our attendants accurately described its texture as being brownie-like. However, I wish there were more than just four shrimps. The shrimp ravioli was good, & the dish was presented nicely. Overall, the service at this restaurant was great. The waitstaff was attentive & provided excellent service throughout our meal.

Wonderful experience! Our server was fantastic & so helpful, & the chef came out to bring the food to us & tell us all about it. One of the best meals/ experiences we've ever had! Thank you!

First time at this restaurant. We enjoyed the seasonal blind tasting menu. Delicious & beautifully plated. The staff was very knowledgeable about the food, the wine, the cocktails. Very attentive. A wonderful experience, & we highly recommend the restaurant & Chef Dominic's creations.

Très bonne adresse à Québec, un peu à l’écart des restaurants plus touristiques de la vielle ville.
Décoration très chouette, ambiance sympathique, accueil chaleureux & super formule de brunch pour le dimanche.
Très bonne carte pour le déjeuner ou le dîner & bons cocktails. Le chef propose des produits de saisons en provenance de producteurs locaux. 🌟

I enjoyed every second of our dinner at Chez Rioux & Pettigrew. We decided to do the chef's inspiration menu option - where courses are chosen for you. No regrets, everything was exceptional from the first course to dessert. I also really enjoyed the staff who knew about the food & history of the restaurant. The staff also gave me tips in speaking French :) highly recommend.

I wish I could give TEN stars.
From the moment we walked in & were guided to our table through the kitchen, this experience was first-rate. William was our server, & we chose the R&P experience, which was such an adventure & so exciting. We felt well cared-for, & the timing of the dishes was perfect.
From the leeks & apples to the ramen to the duck with carrots three ways to the walnut dessert (& the one with Quebec strawberries for my wife), we could sense the excitement & love that the kitchen & servers had for the Experience, which transferred to us as we enjoyed each surprise course. It's clear that the chef & kitchen brigade are fiercely proud of the locally-sourced ingredients, the conceiving & execution of the dishes, & the exquisite presentation. The fresh carrot foam? Gorgeous. The mustard espuma? Unctuous & luscious.
The dessert could have had a dusting of cocoa to finish it, but you chose sumac, which we immediately detected; the sourness added a citric accent to the black walnut pastry cream. The small plate of chocolate fudgy brownies with blackberry was so beautiful we had the taste in our mouths for the whole walk back to the hotel.
Thank you for making this dinner so special & for allowing us to enjoy this meal without feeling rushed. We will highly recommend R&P to visitors to Quebec City & will make reservations again next time we are in the city.
Every little detail, every decision you are making in the kitchen & out on the floor made a difference.

Why can't we give it six stars. Just terrific service & the food was amazing. We had the chef's dinner & it was creative, tasty & flavourful. Just the best.

We ate here for dinner last night with high expectations given the 4.7 average reviews. The oysters were delicate & delicious & our waitress was really great but the main meal of bouillabaisse was so disappointing! One of those dishes where the chefs are trying to be too creative (trying too hard) instead of just making a simple, delicious bouillabaisse. The fish was cold, the potatoes tasted like they had been microwaved, the soup itself was maybe two tablespoons. I won’t be returning.

Delicious food & wine that were all presented beautifully & thoughtfully. We loved the chef's choice 4 course meal. So many wonderful flavors.
Our waitress was charming & helpful & all the staff were attentive, without being intrusive. We loved the ambiance & the walk through the kitchen!
