AFFAMÉS D’HISTOIRE?

Le 160, rue Saint-Paul s’est toujours avéré un lieu où les ingrédients et le service de qualité supérieurs font la loi. Fondé en 1860 par Narcisse Rioux, le magasin général Chez Rioux & Pettigrew fournissait aux restaurateurs, aux épiciers, aux hôpitaux et aux communautés religieuses une grande variété de produits locaux ou d’importation.

Barils de mélasse, poches de farine, sucre, gruau, fruits et légumes en conserves, épices, noix, raisins secs, chocolat, bonbons présentés sur des étalages… On y trouvait même de l’alcool jusqu’à la création de la Commission des liqueurs en 1921!

Everything was just wonderful except for 1 issue We were in a very small space & in the same room as we were in sat a table of at least 10 people We couldn't here ourselves think I have no problem with people enjoying themselves I think the restaurant should have seated them in a larger space Most of our time was spent raising our voices in order to hear each other Also the servers needed to yell as well Our bill was around $350.00 In hindsight we should have left but where do you go on Christmas night with no reservations It was not the atmosphere we had hoped for It is a shame that this happened & I would not recommend it to my friends & we will not go back It is a shame because the food is amazing

After doing some research, I decided on Chez Rioux & Pettigrew to celebrate my husbands birthday in romantic Quebec City. Without a doubt, a most memorable evening. A warm welcome, charming table in the window set the mood for the evening. There was a set Christmas menu with many choices to be had. The food was excellent!! The presentation & explanation made the plates more of an experience. A feast for the senses. The service was charming. Highly highly recommended. Would most definitely return on our next visit.

This was recommended by Maria, the concierge at St Regis in Toronto who is from Quebec City & I'm so glad we listened. Atmosphere was perfect - cozy & comfortable. Food was amazing - explained in great detail by the chef. Each bite was perfect! we walked from Fairmont hotel & it was a bit off the beaten path - steep walking back in fresh snow, but worth it!

We chose this restaurant for our 25th anniversary dinner based on others' reviews & it surely did not disappoint! The staff were very gracious without hovering, the atmosphere warm & inviting & the guinea hen dish was absolutely superb with a rich flavor & crispy skin. They even commemorated our dinner celebration with a card that all the staff signed & a wonderful rhubarb dessert wine. We most highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an authentic Quebec experience!

This was the best dinner we had in Quebec City, even better than Le Saint Amour. Wonderful service from a very helpful staff. Delicious & charming - we recommend it to everyone!
