AFFAMÉS D’HISTOIRE?

Le 160, rue Saint-Paul s’est toujours avéré un lieu où les ingrédients et le service de qualité supérieurs font la loi. Fondé en 1860 par Narcisse Rioux, le magasin général Chez Rioux & Pettigrew fournissait aux restaurateurs, aux épiciers, aux hôpitaux et aux communautés religieuses une grande variété de produits locaux ou d’importation.

Barils de mélasse, poches de farine, sucre, gruau, fruits et légumes en conserves, épices, noix, raisins secs, chocolat, bonbons présentés sur des étalages… On y trouvait même de l’alcool jusqu’à la création de la Commission des liqueurs en 1921!

Plusieurs reliques empruntées à cette époque ont trouvé leur place dans notre décor actuel. Vous souhaitez vivre l’immersion signée Rioux & Pettigrew?

The wine pairing & tasting menu we experienced was superb & the service was friendly & attentive. You can spend a considerable amount for ordinary fare in Quebec City. Whereas our meal here was extraordinary. Unusual flavours delicately balanced.

We dined in September when the 4 course tasting menu was served. The added oysters were amazing; delightful match with gingered cream. Our only curiosity was why veal was served twice in a row after the wonderful tataki. Presentations were perfect. Entire wait staff was kind, attentive & welcoming.

Great foodie experience with the blind tasting menu. Each course was delicious & presented/explained meticulously. A great value for the price compared to other tastings I have experienced.

We had a wonderful dinner there. Very impressed with the blind tasting menu. The wine pairing is well thought & go really well with the foods. The server was very attentive. We will definitely return.

Although the blind tasting menu was interesting & creative, we felt press-ganged into it as no other menu was available being Labour Day. & this was was not communicated to us.

We had the Pettigrew tasting menu & wine pairing & sat at the bar. The food was fantastic, as was the service. Highly recommend. Be sure to block off some time though as it took awhile to make it through the four courses. The cocktails are also fantastic.

Unique restaurant with 2 distinct dining areas. Food is interesting & eclectic . We chose to order a la carte - though the majority of diners appeared to be having the 4 course tasting menu. So I'm not sure we can judge the food fairly in that respect. Decor is an intentional mis-match of furniture - thus not making every seat in the house a comfortable one. We were seated at the end of a communal table - needed to sit on pillows to be high enough to the farm table. Not sorry I went, but I wouldn't go back.

Tasting menu was very well executed that featured fresh local produce & their service was excellent. The team was a very enthusiastic & clearly very experienced. They took the time to explain every courses.
