AFFAMÉS D’HISTOIRE?

Le 160, rue Saint-Paul s’est toujours avéré un lieu où les ingrédients et le service de qualité supérieurs font la loi. Fondé en 1860 par Narcisse Rioux, le magasin général Chez Rioux & Pettigrew fournissait aux restaurateurs, aux épiciers, aux hôpitaux et aux communautés religieuses une grande variété de produits locaux ou d’importation.

Barils de mélasse, poches de farine, sucre, gruau, fruits et légumes en conserves, épices, noix, raisins secs, chocolat, bonbons présentés sur des étalages… On y trouvait même de l’alcool jusqu’à la création de la Commission des liqueurs en 1921!

Sophisticated without being pretentious, super fresh food, great service & explanations of the dishes & wine. They ran out of oysters 🦪 so we only had 5 but the intriguing minuets was delightful for the ones we received!

Service was not desirable for a star chef restaurant. Host was militant like. Ordered bread because both of us had dishes with sauces & had to remind them 2x after food was served. No water service although we were drinking wine & specialty drinks. We told them about the bread delay at check time but they still did not remove the bread from the bill. Entrees & dessert had amazing flavors & textures.

We did the blind tasting menu with the wine pairing. Each wine was perfectly paired to the delicious dishes that we received. A truly spectacular meal with superb service!

The food is wonderful & the wine pairing well thought out & perfectly fitting. The pace is leisurely & the atmosphere warm & welcoming. The service is professional & friendly. One of the best restaurant experiences I've had anywhere in the world. I highly recommend the tasting menu with the wine pairing.

Chez Rioux & Pettigrew was a wonderful experience! Members of my party had various food intolerances or preferences & Benjamin & the staff did a wonderful job accommodating us. We are also wine 'newbies' so we loved how helpful Benjamin was in selecting what drink we should pair our meals with.

4 of us dined at this lovely restaurant & ordered the chefs tasting menu with the discovery wine pairings. We loved that there was flexbility in what you received based on dietary restrictions. The courses were fresh, delicious, & the perfect portion size for a 4 course meal. Everyone left satisfied without being overly full. The wine pairings were interesting & somewhat uncommon . Our servers were very informative & pleasant & gave just the right amount of attention to our table. & the space itself is relaxing & full of charm. Highly recommend this place!

We were disappointed with our experience & the "mystery meal." The second, third & fourth corses were only average.— certainly not what we were expecting. The texture of the halibut was gelatinous, the texture of the duck was chewy. The paired wine with the third course left an unappetizing after-taste, sort of dusty. Our server, JP, did a fine job & offered us an alternative wine & cheese board after we expressed our disappointment with the third course. Th dessert was ok; the crust was hard; the sorbet, fruit & cream were good, but diminished by the hard crust, So I simply pushed everything off the crust. Overall, not a memorable dinner, overpriced & disappointing, quite sorry to say. I'm undecided about posting this review on TripAdvisor, so thank you for the opportunity to tell you directly.

Beautiful setting; friendly & knowledgeable servers (fluent French & English speakers); delicious food-healthy, clean, fresh ingredients. The turbot (Bouillon Rhubarbe) was incredible as was the Tomato starter (L'Attaque des Tomates Tueuses). We finished with the Anna dessert, a delight. Nice cocktail & wine selections.
