Extremely good service & wine recommendations. Brilliantly sourced food stuffs assembled in unique flavor combinations. Space is welcoming & I quite comfortable
I had 4 evenings to enjoy the amazing cuisine of Quebec City & we chose to visit Chez Rioux twice over 2 other Michelin starred restaurants! Creative, fresh, & well proportioned ..coupled by an eclectic wine list both evenings were a major success & it is only a short walk from the Saint-Antoine. Truly a wonderful experience & the gazpacho soup was palate heaven! Bravo D'Artagnon
I visited Chez Rioux & Pettigrew with high expectations, drawn by its Michelin recommendation. The food was absolutely delicious - every dish was beautifully prepared & full of flavor. However, the overall experience was disappointing due to the unacceptable wait time. I regret ordering the 4 course tasting menu that cost us CAD220+.
We were seated at 6:00 PM & ordered the 4-course tasting menu with an extra oyster. We didn't receive the main course until 8:22 PM - more than 2 hours later. The whole experience lasted almost 2 hours & 45 minutes for a 4 courses only menu. During that time, we watched multiple tables around us who ordered the regular evening menu finish their meals & leave.
As someone who works in luxury hospitality organizations & travel extensively. I've never seen a 4-course menu take this long. Timing is part of the guest experience, & this felt excessive.
Our server was friendly & proactive, offering wine & bread during the wait & even removing charges for our cocktail & bread roll - which I appreciated. However, when I voiced my concern, his response was,'It's not my fault,' which didn't feel very professional.
Worst of all, I ended the night with a severe stomach ache due to the long delay. I had to stop at a gas station for medicine & a sandwich on the way to my hotel - a sad ending to what should've been a memorable culinary night.
The chef's work is truly impressive, but it's a shame we couldn't enjoy it in comfort due to poor pacing. I hope the team reconsiders the timing & flow of the tasting menu service.
We traveled to Quebec City to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary. Our wonderful dinner at this restaurant was absolutely perfect! Juan, our server, explained all the options for dinner. We decided on the 4 course culinary experience & were so thrilled we did! We are not big drinkers & we were able to halve the amount of wine served per course ( 2 oz instead of 4oz), which worked very well for us . We could see that Juan, all the people that served each course are truly passionate about what they do . We enjoyed being surprised & savored every delicious bite. The wine pairings were spot on with each course. I hope we can return someday again . Our dinner at Chez Rioux & Pettigrew will always be one of the most beloved dining experiences we've ever had . Merci Beaucoup & best wishes .
This is a really excellent restaurant in a very unassuming building with a friendly, quirky & cozy decor. The picture of the interior of the restaurant was taken before the room filled up for the evening - this was a Monday night but the place was full by the time we left! We had the four course experience menu & shared the wine pairings between two of us. This was completely blind - no indications of what we would be eating (but with an opportunity to indicate what we wanted to rule out which, in our case, was nothing). We had a very memorable & enjoyable meal with really interesting wines that paired beautifully with each dish. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes really outstanding meals created by a gifted team & served by cheerful, knowledgeable, highly competent servers. We will remember the meal, the people & the place as a standard of excellence for a very long time.
I don't even know where to begin-this is truly one of the most incredible dining experiences I've had. If you appreciate food as an art form, this place is a must. I've had dinner here twice, both times as a walk-in. The first time, Benjamin kindly seated me by the window, & the second time, Vincent placed me closer to the bar.
Benjamin was exceptional in introducing the menu. He described everything so vividly, giving me a great visual of the dishes & even suggested some red wine options that paired beautifully with the food.
I started with the oysters, which were unbelievably fresh. They were served with a rich red sauce that enhanced the flavor perfectly, & the small sprig of fresh dill on top was the perfect finishing touch. For my second dish, I had the duck pâté served with homemade bread, enriched with olive oil & freshly toasted-it was divine.
Dessert was out of this world. A Canadian take on a rhubarb pie-it was light, flavorful, & left me satisfied without feeling overly full.
Benjamin & Simon were both incredibly warm, informative, & attentive-not just as servers, but as wonderful hosts, especially to me as an American guest.
On my second visit, Vincent welcomed me with the same warmth. I had a fish appetizer & lamb as my main course-both beautifully prepared with creative flavor combinations. The presentation was stunning. Dessert was a rich chocolate cake, served with-believe it or not-sorbet made from bell peppers. The vibrant orange color & unexpected flavor made for a truly memorable finish.
I have deep admiration for both Chef Romain & Pastry Chef Cléophée. They are true artists, with an extraordinary vision for flavor, texture, & presentation.
& most of all, I can't say enough about Jade. She made my visit to both Canada & this restaurant unforgettable. Her passion for the food, her joy in presenting each dish, & her faith in every detail-all delivered with a warm smile-made me feel so welcomed. She is truly a gem & an invaluable part of this restaurant. So thank you Dominic for your carefully chosen employees.
We came here to celebrate my sister's birthday & wow! Everything was perfect. We chose to have the meal experience paired with wine. Each course was a surprise & elequantly designed/presented. Each bite was delightful & the wine pairing was just as spectacular. My sister & I had such a wonderful time & really enjoyed not only the food but also the ambiance of the space & thoughtfulness of our waiters. Thank you for such a magnificent evening!
Overall an enjoyable evening with well prepared & good tasting food. We got the tasting menu, two cocktails, & two glasses of wine. The tasting menu was priced well. However, there were a few points in service that were lacking: 1) They rushed the food service. We received our first course before we even got our initial drink. I had to ask them to slow down after the second course so I could even finish my cocktail as I wanted a glass of wine with the main; 2) I accidentally spilled my near-full cocktail &, as expected, they offered a replacement. What was not expected was being charged for the replacement. One honest mistake spilled cocktail should certainly be able to be written off, especially on a $300+ bill. 3) When they brought the wine they didn't provide a taste, just poured the glasses & left. Based on this experience, I would not return to this restaurant as there are many other options in the city.
Visited for my first time & tried the Holiday preset menu - nothing short of delicious. It was a 4 course meal, & we did the wine pairing as well. The scallop crudo dish (second dish), & the Roasted duck breast were my favourites. The wine pairings were lovely as well. Also had one of the best Pisco sours there!!
