The soups were served cold, with small (think several tablespoon) portion sizes that were inconsistent across the table. The duck foie gras arrived on cold, burnt toast, & the ravioli-a mere three lukewarm pieces per person-were undercooked & lacked flavor. Dessert was largely uninspired with just a small slice of cake topped with popcorn. For the premium price charged, the menu felt lazy & poorly thought out. The service also left a lot to be desired; despite informing the restaurant during booking that we would be dining with a one-year-old, the waitress rolled her eyes on arrival & provided only an adult chair, leaving us to again request a booster seat. The entire meal felt rushed & concluded in under an hour, providing us with a largely underwhelming experience for the price charged.
Such a hidden gem - just tucked away off the main street & absolutely worth it! This cozy little restaurant recently celebrated 50 years, & it's easy to see why it's stood the test of time. The menu is small, but everything is done perfectly. The service is so warm & unpretentious - we dined in with our toddler & baby & felt completely at ease. For dinner, we loved the French onion soup & fisherman's pie, & our toddler couldn't get enough of his grilled cheese. We came back for brunch & really enjoyed the homemade hot chocolate, croque madame, & classic egg benedict. Highly recommend!
We decided to go to Quebec City for Christmas Eve last minute & this is the only restaurant that has Christmas dinner available. I saw many good reviews so I made the booking. We were surprised to know there was only one menu for Christmas of $80 a person with a cold cauliflower soup (tastes like gasoline so we didn't finish), one tiny fois gras, 3 tortellini - as main dish! & a dessert. We had to order ramen after dinner because that's not enough for half a person & food didn't taste so great. Such a rip off. I believe their regular menu is better & more reasonable, too bad we went there for Christmas Eve dinner.
We had the Christmas 4 course dinner & it was amazing. I am a little confused by the previous reviews especially regarding the service. They had our food out quick & were constantly refilling our waters. It felt very cozy in the restaurant. Considering it was a 4 course meal they usually come out in smaller portions but it was plenty of food. My favorite part was the soup, it was very flavorful. The dessert part of the 4 course menu was okay but ultimately this was a great experience all around. I think maybe some were not prepared for the Christmas day 4 course meal only option.
Stopped here for lunch after reading about it. My wife is a huge french onion soup lover & someone said they had the best in town. She was actually pretty angry because she didn't get much cheese on her soup & the guy next to us got a ton. I kept telling her she got the less because we are Americans . Regardless, the soup was exceptional it has incredible flavor & I agree it is one of the best French Onion soups i've had. She also got a burger & I got the Seafood pie. It was basically Shepard pie with shrimp & scallops. & was very very satisfying. The only draw back is that I am a fat f & the tables are spaced pretty close together. Not a lot of room to move. Otherwise, the food , the service & the price made for a wonderful lunch.
Great service, & incredible food! We walked in without a reservation, & the downstairs looked quite busy. Luckily they were able to still sit us as they actually have a second floor which was almost empty & very quiet (which we preferred) Ordered the Beef Tartare & the French Onion soup & they were both very good. Some of the best I've tried! We ordered some beers & everything came quite quick. Really happy with the location & quality of the restaurant & food. Thanks!
Super cute place for a meal. I had lunch here at happy hour. The French onion soup was delicious & very warming on a cold day. The fisherman's pie was amazing & the scallops were cooked well. Not sure was the salad dressing was, but it was my favorite.
Came for a cold drink, had lunch & wine, & an amazing beer, carrot soup was incredible compliments to chef
French onion soup & beef tartare are a safe bet! Thanks Luisa & Mike
