L'Échaudé is a neighborhood bistro atmosphere, a comfortable dining room or, alternatively, a terrace service on pedestrian street.
L'Échaudé is widely regarded as a standout culinary destination in Old Quebec, celebrated for its authentic, high-quality French cuisine and sophisticated bistro atmosphere. Many guests praise the creative menu, highlighting dishes like duck confit, beef tartare, and fresh seafood as examples of the kitchen's precision and passion. While the dining experience is frequently described as memorable and professional, some visitors note that service can occasionally be affected by high volume, leading to slower pacing during busy periods. Overall, it remains a popular choice for those seeking a refined and atmospheric meal in a beautiful historic setting, with many patrons expressing a strong desire to return for future visits.
The food came out quickly, hot & well presented. The service however was appalling. Guests were barely acknowledged, it was not busy but it took longer to place my order than for the food to be made. Server didn't know the difference between a chou pastry & filo pastry as she described the dessert feature (which she forgot to tell me about initially). Overall, not what I expected. Would not recommend, unless you have no time restraints & low expectations of service.
So, I had a reservation, but guess what? It's not full, so we get to go in early! & the best part? The food portion is small, so they recommend ordering 2-3 dishes. We ordered 2 dishes to try, & they were delicious! We also ordered the tasting plate for two for desserts, & they were a real treat. We couldn't resist the temptation to try them all!
Of all the variety of restaurants we ate at during our stay in Québec, this one was just okay. I would expect more of a restaurant that claims to be Michelin recommended. Poor plate presentation, & the portion for the sides was small at best.
Additionally there were fruit flies around the table throughout our dinning experience which left us questioning the overall cleanliness.
Thankfully the service was good.

We got lucky & chose this as our first place to eat in Quebec. It was the best by far. The food, the service, the presentation were superb. Worthy of a Michelin star. Can't recommend it high enough.
We happen to be walking by this restaurant a few days ago & stopped to look at the menu. The menu looked good so I made a reservation. we arrived at 6:30 PM & the outside seating was almost full, but it was warm out so we decided to sit inside where it was much cooler. I started out with a glass of Chenin Blanc & my other half had a glass of Sancerre. We ordered some bread to start off. I chose the warm goat cheese over brioche with a sun-dried tapenade & my partner had the lobster carpaccio. Both dishes were excellent! My partner chose the duck confit & I had the pork mignon cutlet for our entrées. Again, both dishes were excellent. We still had room for dessert so we shared the tasting plate for two. It consisted of Tonka, bean, crème brûlée, sugar pie, honey & vanilla ice cream, opera cake. It didn't take us long to finish it! I really wanted to order another one! LOL! As the evening went on the, more people started coming in. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're staying in Quebec city.
Expérience notablement plaisante. Tout y était pour la recette parfaite: une belle soirée d'été, une terasse peu bondée, une serveuse aux petits oignons & SURTOUT des plats exquis! Nous recommandons vivement.
An absolutely incredible experience at this restaurant.
The service was top notch & the food was delicious!
Our waiter was warm, engaging & professional & ensured that we had everything that we needed throughout the night. The kitchen even made my daughter a special pasta supper with fresh vegetables.
The sommelier recommended an amazing wine that we loved.
We came here for the duck confit, but were only told after sitting down that all the duck-related entrées were unavailable for the night. Since it would have been difficult to find another place to eat at the last minute, we decided to stay. For appetizers, we ordered the veal tongue & the cheese plate for two. For our main entrées, we chose the fowl breast, beef tartare, & white fish, accompanied by two glasses of white wine & one cocktail. Unfortunately, none of the dishes were impressive. The cheese from the cheese plate wasn't even as good as the ones I get from the farm, the foie gras was very average, & the sausages were overly salty. For one of the white wines we ordered, there was something floating on the top. After we requested a new one, we noticed the waiter using a filter to strain the wine. We definitely won't be coming back & won't recommend this place to anyone.
This adorable restaurant is in the lower town part of old Quebec. The ambiance is lovely & it's very upscale; with amazing food, wine & service. I would definitely recommend getting their appetizer special, where you get to try 3 appetizers for a fixed price. We enjoyed the charcuterie (which counted as 2 appetizers) & the beef tartare very much. For dinner, the duck was second to none. It was so tender & flavorful. The rib eye for 2 was fantastic also. Our server was helpful & attentive. It was about $380 Canadian dollars for 3 people (with tip), including a bottle of wine.
This French restaurant is a true gem! The ambiance is cozy & elegant, perfect for a relaxed evening. The dishes are beautifully crafted with authentic flavors that transport you straight to France. The service was warm & attentive, making the entire experience delightful. Highly recommend for anyone craving a taste of French cuisine! Plus I had the most beautiful woman eating dinner with me
