Review Summary

L'Échaudé is widely regarded as a standout culinary destination in Old Quebec, celebrated for its authentic, high-quality French cuisine and sophisticated bistro atmosphere. Many guests praise the creative menu, highlighting dishes like duck confit, beef tartare, and fresh seafood as examples of the kitchen's precision and passion. While the dining experience is frequently described as memorable and professional, some visitors note that service can occasionally be affected by high volume, leading to slower pacing during busy periods. Overall, it remains a popular choice for those seeking a refined and atmospheric meal in a beautiful historic setting, with many patrons expressing a strong desire to return for future visits.

Beautiful atmosphere, great wine selection, very friendly waitress. Beef shoulder was somewhat tough & was unable to eat approximately half of it.

We've been coming to Quebec City for more than 20 years. L'Échaudé is always on our "must go" list. Once again, the service, food, wine & ambiance were top-rate.

My last 2 reviews were 5 stars at different restaurants in Quebec City. I am not writing this to negatively impact this business but just an honest review. We ordered the 3 appies for $45. Not a bad deal considering we had the seared bluefin tuna, the quail & the lamb. Overall presented well, good taste(especially the mushroom sauce with the quail was packed with flavour). We ordered a bottle of wine & their list ranges from moderately pricey to very pricey & overall good value. The major disappointment was the main. The blood pudding was ok at best. Not sure why the cabbage was undercooked with this mash of blood pudding that came spewing out when you try to cut it. The rib of the cabbage was tough to chew. Underseasoned but nicely presented. I liked the grilled squash. The worst one was the guinea fowl. The first dish was overcooked, like rubber & overly salted ( was it the brine?). We sent it back, 2nd one same thing. It was certainly the meat as everything else was not overly salty. 2nd dish they cooked the fowl better but i couldn't finish it was it was too salty. Lastly the service was moderate at best. I've had better in QC & I don't want to say more but this wasn't the service that we expected based on the reviews. We could tell that there was way more energy put at other tables. Not sure what the problem was but disappointed. I wouldn't recommend, personally as there are better imo.

Everything was wonderful at this restaurant last night. Right from the moment we walked in the door, we felt very welcome. Our server was kind, efficient, funny & very accommodating & our food was spectacular. The goat cheese with tomato tapenade was terrific, my beef shoulder was delicious & cooked perfectly & my husband thoroughly enjoyed his halibut & flounder dish. I had the frangipane for dessert & my husband had the chocolate cake & both were beautifully presented & terrific. We shared a small cheese plate, which was great, & our server recommended a wonderful wine, so our meal was complete. Highly recommended!!

We enjoyed the most relaxing & delicious meal at L'Èchaudé. Being one of the few non pub style restaurants in the city open on a Tuesday we were pleased to snag a reservation. The menu had a great selection & we enjoyed our foie gras appetizer, ahi tuna & flank steak. Great service from of lovely server (Pierre ?) who brought wine pairing by the glass for each course. Would happily return, Merci !

The soup had no taste, very stale; when this was addressed, the server said he would mention it with the cook (did not offer any compensation). As for the steak flank, it was not tender & most of it was undercooked (my wife refused to mention it), & the accompanying gravy was ordinary. I had cod cheeks which did not have a welcoming smell or taste. All in all, this was not a positive experience, it seems like this restaurant is overrated! However, the wine was excellent & service was very good. We do not recommend this restaurant.

We have continued our tradition of dining at L'Échaudé & they have continued in providing us a memorable experience. The Halibut special was delicate with crisp roasted chickpeas. The Veal entree butter tender with accompanying lobster. Add to this a sommelier who can perform magic in wine pairing & there you have a great evening. The staff are very warm & authentic & can't help but make you feel valued. Bravo Michael we can't wait to see you again!
