Review Summary

La Buche offers a vibrant and authentic dining experience that captures the heart of traditional Quebecois cuisine. Guests frequently praise the warm, festive atmosphere and the eclectic decor, which includes a notably unique washroom design. While the menu features hearty, comfort-focused dishes such as poutine, tourtière, and various maple-inspired desserts, the attentive and friendly staff consistently enhance the visit. Although the popularity of the restaurant can lead to bustling crowds and the need for reservations, many visitors find the overall quality of the food and the lively cultural immersion well worth the experience.

If you want an elevated'sugar-shack' experience without attending one; this is your spot. We went for dinner service & the gentleman that was serving us was by far the best customer I've receive in hospitality in a very long time. Personable & courteous. (Please give a high five to the Chilean gentleman.)

Now the food- we had the $70 per person feast that allows you to try majority of their menu. The show stopper was the foie gras pudding chômeur. A beautiful balance between sweet & salty. Honestly probably the reason why this dish set the bar so high. Also, don't try to finish everything on your own, you'll just make yourself sick lol. It's decadent but so good. We also had the salmon tartare & deer tartare. The salmon was unfortunately too fishy & the deer tartare needed some brightening/acidic flavour profile. The rest: meat tasted too dry for my personal liking.

Overall, I would personally give the food itself a 6.8/10.

The experience itself was great.
Music & decor was eclectic.

Great if you're out of town, want to bring someone from out of town.

This was a highlight of our time in Quebec city!! We loved the food, the fun, warm decor & especially the bathroom set up with the head washing bathtub sink set up! & what really made our day was when the staff were singing along to the music:) It was a great vibe & such a fun experience for us. We really enjoyed it.

We went there for brunch &, although the wait time was short, we had to stand outside on the street, which was really cold-but it was absolutely worth it. The décor was fascinating; I loved every corner of the place. Even the washrooms were completely different from any restaurant washrooms we've seen before.

The staff were very friendly, & the food was excellent. The crêpes were delicious, & the lumberjack skillet is a must-try. The drip coffee was tasty as well.

Highly recommended!

From the moment I walked in, I knew there was something truly special about this spot & it did not disappoint. The interior alone left me speechless: incredibly creative décor with antlers & skis hanging from the ceiling, & even a bathtub sink in the restroom that made the whole experience feel fun & unforgettable.

The customer service was just as impressive; warm, welcoming, & genuinely friendly from start to finish. The food was excellent, perfectly prepared, & clearly made with care. & as if it couldn't get any better, the coffee was free, which was such a nice & unexpected touch.

This place is definitely popular, so be prepared for a long line if you don't snag a reservation but it's absolutely worth the wait. An unforgettable breakfast experience that I can't recommend enough!

It's alright for what it is - a kitschy, semi-tourist trap with decent'Quebecois' food. The meat omelette was fine, & loaded up decently enough with fillings. The maple pulled ham side was tasty, though honestly, pretty small for $7. Would be nice to get more than one slice of toast with a breakfast that cost $29. It's also pretty embarrassing that a place that styles itself as rustic & homestyle is using frozen, bought-in breakfast potatoes. The food came out quick (though, weirdly, not particularly hot). I think I saw the server once between the order & the bill, so make sure you get everything you need in one shot. Ultimately, there are better brunch options in Quebec, but La Buche is adequate if the goofy decor & pseudo-sugar shack vibes are what you want.

A unique restaurant in Quebec City with exceptionally friendly & attentive service. The décor is special, rustic & cozy, creating a wonderfully warm atmosphere. The food features traditional Québécois cuisine: hearty yet refined, & absolutely delicious. Definitely a place to visit, & to come back to again & again!
