Review Summary

La Buche offers a vibrant and authentic dining experience that captures the heart of traditional Quebecois cuisine. Guests frequently praise the warm, festive atmosphere and the eclectic decor, which includes a notably unique washroom design. While the menu features hearty, comfort-focused dishes such as poutine, tourtière, and various maple-inspired desserts, the attentive and friendly staff consistently enhance the visit. Although the popularity of the restaurant can lead to bustling crowds and the need for reservations, many visitors find the overall quality of the food and the lively cultural immersion well worth the experience.

amazing traditional quebecois restaurant. my boyfriend & i got the cabane a sucre plate to share with an extra french toast & it was the best brunch i've ever had. incredibly balanced between salty & sweet. the ambiance is great too. 10/10 recommend & i made a reservation beforehand which was good during peak brunch hours.

On a super cold night, this place was very cozy & warm. The food was delicious. We were party of 6, & everything we ordered was amazing. From the apps we had the pickle medley, deer tartare, salmon tartare, smoked trout, & everyone kicked it with the French Onion soup. Yummy!!! I loved the smoked trout appetizer so much that I had the trout salad for my main. The combination of the smoked trout & the goat cheese with greens was so so so good. Be sure to make a reservation.

I had the best experience at this lovely restaurant! Extraordinary! The staff were so friendly & the service was amazing! The servers checked with me several times to be sure I had everything that I needed. I had the French Onion Soup (delicious) & the Pâté Chinois (also delicious). I didn't have room for dessert however the Maple Syrup Pie came highly recommended. I also enjoyed a lovely French Canadian Rosé. Overall, my experience was delightful!

My party of 5 the first list & 4 the second visit all enjoyed La Buche very much. The food was excellent. Please note, the French toast is served with a very sweet sauce. The 2nd visit I ordered it with maple syrup & without the sauce & it was delicious!

La Buche was recommended by a local as the best French food in the neighborhood without a crazy high price point. Such a good choice. We loved everything we were served & the service was great. We had the pork loin & tourtière. The picture of the pork does not do it justice. It was delicious & very tender. It's served with potatoes, prepared sort of like a hash brown, & a carrot puree. Both were great pairs to the pork. The tourtiere was also filled with tender meats & topped with a super flaky pastry. It's served with a fruit ketchup which was new to me. It has a pickled flavor & was an unexpected complement. House salad & poor man's pudding were also great - get it with a scoop of ice cream. To be safe, make a reservation. We were lucky to arrive early (4:45ish) & get a table without one. It was packed when we left.

Great place for a quick meal in Quebec City. Service was friendly & very fast. We had our meals within 10 minutes & the restaurant was completely full. Sat on the back patio & it was lovely. The food was delicious but I was disappointed that it was not'traditional' French Canadian cuisine. The shepherds pie & tourtiere were presented as more of a'deconstructed' meal. Still fantastic & delicious, just not what we were expecting when we had hoped for a very traditional French Canadian meal. The bathrooms were very cool & definitely a highlight for our kids!

Visited this restaurant during recent stay in Quebec City on a Sunday morning. We waited in line for a table. Took about 30min to be seated.

Patio was very nice/small intimate. We enjoyed the atmosphere.

Food was excellent & exceeded expectations. The French toast was outstanding.

Only negative comment was the waiter was sub-optimal. Not very attentive, did not provide cutlery or ask for beverage order.

Great old world atmosphere. Food was very good. The Pain Dores (French toast) was excellent. Caramelized apples & caramel. But not over sweet.
