La Buche offers a vibrant and authentic dining experience that captures the heart of traditional Quebecois cuisine. Guests frequently praise the warm, festive atmosphere and the eclectic decor, which includes a notably unique washroom design. While the menu features hearty, comfort-focused dishes such as poutine, tourtière, and various maple-inspired desserts, the attentive and friendly staff consistently enhance the visit. Although the popularity of the restaurant can lead to bustling crowds and the need for reservations, many visitors find the overall quality of the food and the lively cultural immersion well worth the experience.
Excellent ham! We enjoyed the lapin wings, & Shepherds Pie as well. Very slow delivery on the wine. Although we ordered one glass, two arrived just at the end of our meal. We saw the waiter following up on the order, but they couldn't seem to get it out of the kitchen.
However, it was an enjoyable evening.
As we arrived we were given pork rinds that I am sure were stail, which seems odd if they are given away at the rate I assume they are given, but they tasted bad. I had the tourtiere: I wish there was more tomatoe relish as that was the best thing on my plate. The salad dressing was flavorless & because the meat & crust are just introduced before serving the different parts of the meal seem unrelated. My husband had the Shepard's pie: the bacon was tasty the potatoes were good but once again the parts were prepared independently so the flavors never had time to blend. I get it probably is easier for the kitchen but as the consumer we were underwhelmed.
Outstanding service. We enjoyed trying the meat pie here. The wine per glass was three to four dollars less than other restaurants we have eaten at. I see why they have lines for meals & why we needed a reservation. Great restaurant!!!

We had the French onion soup, pea soup, bison steak, smoked trout salad, Shepherds pie & ribs. Portions were generous & everything was delicious. The salad was the best I've ever had! The service was excellent. Would definitely go back!
French fries were very dry & unpleasant but the pork ribs were very good same as the Shepard pie. Better serve potato edges or mash potatoes. Cole slaw was very, very small portion. Is the cabbage that expensive in Quebec?
Also the cocktail was not very professional prepared.
Traditional Canadian food, unique decor, wonderful service. We had rabbit wings, French onion soup, meat pie, & salmon - all very good! Make sure to order the poor man's pudding for dessert!
My husband & I had dinner at La Buche on a Sunday evening during the Summer Festival (unintentional coincidence on our part). That afternoon I made reservations for 5:30 pm, & we were so glad we had done that. The place was very full, & they weren't taking walk ins. There is a patio that doesn't take reservations, but it was a rainy day & not in use. I would recommend taking the time to make a reservation. The food was fantastic! We had a shepherd's pie & tourtiere pie & shared them. They were both excellent, but we preferred the tourtiere - such great flavor & flaky, puff pastry crust. We each had a pint of Griffin Rousse, a local beer. I wasn't able to finish my half of the meal, & my husband finished it for me. I was shocked when he wanted to see the dessert menu (I thought we were already full). We (he) ordered the Poor Man's Pudding with ice cream. It was also amazing! Everything was delicious, & the service was fantastic!
Such a quirky restaurant, but really good food! A very different take on shepherd's pie, & a maple syrup pie to die for. Washroom is not to be missed; you don't see one like it every day!
Food was amazing (Shepards pie) but I barely got any service. After I was seated, it was around 10 minutes before anyone came to me. After paying, I was waiting to speak with someone to confirm that my reservation has been confirmed (double checking) but noone bothered to check up despite me waiting & giving indication to staffs that I would like to speak with someone.
