Got the pate chinois (Quebec shepherds pie) from the lunch menu with maple bacon on top. So good! Service was quick & friendly, & the atmosphere was very welcoming.

We really enjoyed our dinner last night at La Buche. The onion soup was the best we've ever tasted. I wish we had the recipe! Our shepherd's pie was a very interesting & delicious twist on the usual. I'm going to try to make it that way from now on 🙂

Fun ambience & menu, great staff & delicious food. I am a big fan of chicken & waffles & these were the best ever! We also enjoyed the bacon, meat pie nuggets & Shepard's pie. There is a special side/garnish called ketchup aux fruits that was fantastic & we were thrilled to be able to buy a couple of jars in the shop next door!

We came here based on all the praises from several YouTubers. The atmosphere was good & fun, but the food was a little disappointing. The meat pie was the only thing we liked, the poutine was nothing especially compared to other places we went, the savory crepe was bland. The servers were friendly but a little slow which was understandable because they were busy.

Cute restaurant fairly close to our hotel. It serves Quebecquois cuisine, which of course we had to try since this was our first trip here. Our wait staff was very friendly & engaging. I ordered the Linda Margarita (which has aperol, approved, very refreshing & citrus-y. For a starter, I ordered the fois gras, which was buttery, succulent, & yummy. A salad, because, greens, then the meat pie which had beef, pork, & duck. The top was a buttery puff pastry. My mother ordered the maple glazed pork loin, that was tender,& juicy. It came with a carrot puree & a potato pancake. A really wonderful meal.

Really friendly staff, great food, fun atmosphere. The poutine has some tomato in the gravy, which was an unexpected but tasty twist. The deer tartare was fresh & blended with a sweet-savoury mixture of well-balanced spices & mustard, with some toasted nuts sprinkled in for a little bit of crunch. Tourtiere was more shepherd's pie style with a puff pastry crust on top (which was more of a removable topping), & seasoned nicely. Both dishes came with generous field green salads, although the dressing they used for the salad with the tourtiere was a little sweet for my taste (salad with the tartare had more of a vinaigrette dressing). Onion soup was piping hot & generously laden with cheese & onions. For dessert, highly recommend'poor man's pudding' with ice cream, & maple syrup pie. Thanks to the tour guide we had earlier in the day, we knew what these were beforehand, else we might have missed it!'Poor man's pudding' is some white cake drowned in a caramel-like maple sauce that will make make your eyes roll up into the back of your head. The maple syrup pie had a semi-solid filling made from I don't know what (probably eggs, cream, & corn starch), but & wasn't overly sweet, & it was topped with mixed toasted nuts & a little maple syrup. The nuts definitely made it special. Just be forewarned about the unconventional bathrooms: rather than'men's' &'women's,' all the bathrooms are just individual little rooms with toilets in them, & then there's a common area to wash your hands afterwards, which consists of a bathtub with some pipes above it with valves, & you turn the valve & the water comes down. It's fun & funky, but definitely unexpected!

Great place for a quick meal in Quebec City. Service was friendly & very fast. We had our meals within 10 minutes & the restaurant was completely full. Sat on the back patio & it was lovely. The food was delicious but I was disappointed that it was not'traditional' French Canadian cuisine. The shepherds pie & tourtiere were presented as more of a'deconstructed' meal. Still fantastic & delicious, just not what we were expecting when we had hoped for a very traditional French Canadian meal. The bathrooms were very cool & definitely a highlight for our kids!

My husband & I visited Restaurant La Buche on a short trip to Quebec. We were interested in trying some foods that were distinct to the area. We were not disappointed. We started with an assortment of Quebec cheeses with ketchup aux fruits, all of which were delicious. We then shared the pea soup. It was unique & delectable. We ended our meal with the Pate Chinois, a Quebec shepperd's pie. Quite different from an English shepherd's pie, it had mashed potatoes with corn, red wine braised beef, & green onions on top. So good! The service was excellent & the environment welcoming. There were several things on the menu that we'd love to go back & try.
