Review Summary

La Buche offers a vibrant and authentic dining experience that captures the heart of traditional Quebecois cuisine. Guests frequently praise the warm, festive atmosphere and the eclectic decor, which includes a notably unique washroom design. While the menu features hearty, comfort-focused dishes such as poutine, tourtière, and various maple-inspired desserts, the attentive and friendly staff consistently enhance the visit. Although the popularity of the restaurant can lead to bustling crowds and the need for reservations, many visitors find the overall quality of the food and the lively cultural immersion well worth the experience.

I think if it's your first time in QC, this is a must do. My partner & I were able to walk in a little after peak lunch time on a Sunday afternoon & we were told the wait would be 30 min, but it was only 5. Also, you do have to wait around as they don't take names/phone numbers. Highly recommend a reservation, especially during peak hours/seasons. Very kitschy & fun atmosphere!

We split pea soup, the meat pie nuggets, & the shepherd's pie. All were excellent & very filling! Also, staff were super nice & helpful when it came to answering questions about the menu. Food came out super fast!

Best restaurant in Quebec City…went for brunch & got the breakfast poutine, eggs Benedict & baked beans. So. Damn. Good. Ended up going back the next day for our final meal in Quebec & got the pig wings (ribs,) meat pie nuggets, the best french onion soup, & the meat pie with venison, followed by the poor mans pudding. The staff was great all around, including a gentleman named Diego. I will for sure be back

Such wholesome good food. Great atmosphere. The pork rinds are nice & crispy with maple 🍁 sauce. So yummy. I ordered the maple ham eggs Benedict with hollandaise sauce, which is one of my favorite meals here. The side order of the thick cut maple bacon 🥓 is also good. I really enjoy the service & vibes here. My sister ordered the Québec Shephard's pie that she said was very good. I've been back twice & will return again. Great restaurant in Vieux-Québec.

Decent, if dull, overpriced food. The shepherd's pie was uninspired & lukewarm, as was poutine. Nothing really stood out; the foie gras was quite good, but tiny portion for the price. Venture out of the central tourist area for better authentic fare. The atmosphere is lively, so it's probably fun for a big group or a night of heavier drinking. If the food is meant to be the focus of the night, I would try somewhere else.

Food was okay with good atmosphere. As we didn't make any reservation, we still get a table on Christmas Day, which is great. We waited outside for about half an hour & able to get in. Me & my friend ordered onion soup for starter & it tastes good. There's an amazingly thick layer of cheese on top of the soup, it might be a little too much cheese? Also with much cooked onion in the soup which is soft & tasted good, I like it. However my soup has too much fillings but barely soup. We ordered a beef flank steak, a meat pie & a shepherd's pie for the main course. Honestly the food is mediocre for this price. Service is good, all staff attend to our needs which is impressive at such a busy time.

Smoked trout salad & shepherd's pie were impressive! We were initially worried that this restaurant might be overrated before we walked in, but in the end, we weren't disappointed & were glad we chose it :)

We were looking forward to this meal because of the many great reviews. The restaurant is decorated very Canadiana which was fitting. However, the dishes (French onion soup, meat pie nuggets, poutine, tourtiere & maple syrup pie) were unexceptional. Our son who loves poutine disliked the one here because the topping was a sweet spaghetti sauce. My husband's tourtiere was too heavy on the cinnamon & nutmeg & my soup & nuggets were ordinary. To top it all off, our server spoke to the table behind us for 15 minutes! So sadly, La Buche was a big miss for us.

Really fun experience here, Caroline was awesome & so kind to our family! Coming from the US, I wouldn't say the kids menu is super "kid friendly" but we tried it & both kids (3 & 5) surprised us, eating the poutine & the nuggets! The shepherds pie was amazing, & atmosphere was great. Fun for a first dinner in the city!

Amazing service & delicious food! Got the Foie Gras with poor man's pudding, deer tartare, & maple pie. Best meal I've ever had, already planning my next trip to Quebec just for this.
