Went here as part of a walking food tour of the city. Looked good so we decided to have dinner one night. Great atmosphere & food. We shared the sample platter of rabbit wings, tartare, smoked salmon & meatball pies; excellent! We then shared the poutine of the day with ground pork, also excellent. Great experience & service. Definitely what we were looking for after a long day of walking & sightseeing.
Beau restaurant, belle ambiance.
The ambience is nice; very cozy. However, the food really was not good. The poutine literally looked like it had brains on top of it, & even the cheese curds & fries tasted bad.
We ordered the mixed veggies & a salad, & the veggies came out first (I guess we should have specified what should come out first?). The pea soup was the only thing that was good. Sorry, I just don't see the appeal of La Buche.
Our dinner at La Buche was lovely (we had to have dinner instead of breakfast as our plane was delayed). The server was very friendly & attentive. We had the meat pie nuggets, shepherds pie, poutine, grilled cheese, & bison steak. All were very good!
Great restaurant with friendly service. The food combined family friendly comfort food with a level of elegance. We started with the smoked salmon, which was served with blueberries. Never eaten smoked salmon the way before but both the quality of salmon & flavor of blueberries complimented each other & was delish. We also ordered the ham poutine (which was fantastic. The ham melted like butter in your mouth.) In addition the duck confit, which was over a cornbread that had a hint of vanilla/ caramel flavoring. It was surprising to say the least but the best duck confit I have eaten. Very smooth finish that leaves your pallet wanting more. We also ordered the scallops & the bison steak. Presentation on the scallops was beautiful. The bison steak if you like a gamey very tender steak this is totally for you. Reminded me of kangaroo meat that we ate in Australia. & lastly we ordered the pork chop & sausage which both were packed with so many different flavors.
If you want a quaint family friendly location this place is definitely for you. Even my picky austitic toddler couldn't get enough which says a lot because normally eating out we fret about what he will possibly eat from the menu. You can't go wrong with any of their selections!
To the owner: Thank you for the awesome meal & experience!!!
We loved everything about La Buche. The food is fantastic. Service spot on. Prices reasonable for the quality received. We had the set dinner for $50 & it was so much food we could not finish....all was superb. We especially loved the rabbit, the meat pie, the poutine & the wonderful maple syrup!
