What a lovely evening from beginning to end. I had made a reservation & included a request about seating, & from the moment I arrived, it was clear that they had actually read it & taken it into consideration. They found me a lovely place to sit outside in this wonderfully picturesque part of Québec City.
The service throughout the evening was exceptional. As it began to get a little chilly, the host noticed & brought me a blanket, which he actually placed around my shoulders so that I could stay warm & continue enjoying my outdoor table. It was such a thoughtful gesture. I was dining alone, & I honestly can't remember ever having a host pay such kind & attentive attention to me as this young man did. My waiter was wonderful as well-friendly, attentive, & helpful without ever making me feel rushed.
& then there was the food! I started with the gazpacho, which had a distinctly Canadian twist, followed by the bouillabaisse, also with a Canadian interpretation. Both were delicious.
For dessert, I tried their special chocolate cake, a take on a Québec tradition involving McCain chocolate cake. A local guide had told me that I needed to try it even if I thought I was too full for dessert-& that I could always take it with me if necessary. She was right. It was absolutely worth ordering & a wonderful way to finish the meal.
The setting, the food, & especially the warmth of the people made the entire evening memorable. Eating alone can sometimes feel a little anonymous, but here I felt genuinely welcomed & cared for. It was a beautiful first evening in Québec City, & I would happily return.
Best meal I have had in a long time. The lions mane mushrooms were amazing. The duck with blueberry sauce was fabulous. & the strawberry soup for dessert was delicious. Service was great. Highly recommend!!
This is our favorite restaurant in Quebec City. The food & atmosphere are incredible & the staff are the friendliest we have found. We had breakfast there on our last day in the city & in the evening we stopped by hoping to end our trip with dessert at La Buchette. Even though they were packed with reservations, the host, Diego slipped us in & gave us a parting memory of how kind the people of Quebec are, especially at La Buchette.
My husband & I had dinner at La Buchette to celebrate our 35th anniversary. The food was delicious & the service was exceptional. I wish I could remember our lovely server's name, she was amazing. Thank you for the dessert on the house & making our our anniversary a memorable one.
Let me start by saying the service from Joe & the food (mostly) deserve the glowing five-star reviews. But I'm sorry, bad 70s classic rock cranked up loud is a total vibe killer for a French/Quebecois restaurant in such a picturesque setting just off the Place d'Armes! It was so jarring & out of sync! (Loud Foreigner's Cold as Ice?! Really???!!!) I also would not give five stars to the French Onion Soup. It was sweet rather than savory, not very hot, & they cheated by serving cheese-covered toast on the side of the soup - rather than a cheese-COVERED soup with all that gooey fabulousness, with croutons inside. That said the Boeuf Bourguignon was outstanding & worth every penny, & the trout tartare cooked in citrus juice on a bed of broccolini & marinated red onions was interesting & a fresh twist. Since we weren't Canadian, we didn't understand the context of being brought our chocolate cake dessert in a plastic container that looked like it got picked up in a 7-11. Seems it's an homage to a McCain Cake, which indeed is something you pick up from the local convenience store on your way to a potluck when you're in your 20s. The waiter's assistant who brought it out didn't speak English, so we were flummoxed, but Joe explained the context - & even showed us a page off of Google - & the cake & icing itself were scrumptious! Meanwhile, between the terrible songs we could catch a nearby street busker's romantic & much more appropriate guitar music. Please take a cue, management!!!
We made a reservation for dinner on our last night in Old Quebec from P.R. Once we arrived, they seated us at a table of our choice (a family of five). To our delight, our waitress, Penelope, provided top-notch service. We ordered the grilled duck breast, wine, digestif, & a kids' menu with dessert. 10/10 for service & food. Highly recommended.

Nous sommes retournés & wow les huîtres camping sont délicieuses & le carpaccio de canard est tout simplement incroyable!!! Il fait essayer!!!! 😲 🍝🍝
Oh comme dessert, il faut absolument essayer leur version maison du fameux gâteau McCain!!! 1000 fois meilleur!!! Un délice!
On adore l'endroit, le service, le menu original & les plats délicieux, bref, on aime tout!!!
Nous avons tous les deux commandé le même plat, leur'Bouillabec', & nous avons été déçus par deux choses: 1- le poisson était trop cuit & 2- le bouillon était tiède, pas chaud. C'était goûteux, quand même, mais ça aurait pu être tellement meilleur. Ils nous ont offert de retourner le plat à la cuisine, ce que nous avons refusé, alors ils nous ont gentiment offert le dessert, ce que nous avons accepté. J'ai choisi leur'soupe aux fraises', excellente idée en théorie, mais beaucoup trop sucré, on goûtait à peine les fraises tellement il y avait du sucre! Dommage: ils sont parvenus à gâcher deux excellents produits du Québec, le poisson du bas du fleuve (je présume) & les fraises de l'île d'Orléans.
Restaurant de bonne facture coincé entre des établissements plutôt touristiques.
Une carte de plats classiques (burgers) & moins classiques (magret de canard).
Gabrielle a été très efficace au service.
Les plats sont copieux & les saveurs sont là.
La spécialité de dessert maison est le bûcheron. Il vaut le détour. Un seul pour 2 est largement suffisant.
From the start when the greeter recognized our name from the reservation & had a table ready for us, to the conclusion two plus hours later, the entire experience was very good.
The onion soup was served with cheese bread slices, a very different ay of serving French onion soup. We enjoyed it thoroughly.
Our entrees were beef bourguignon & trout fillet. The bourguignon was tender, simmered in a rich wine sauce with carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms, & plentiful mashed potatoes. The trout was served on top of mashed potatoes, asparagus, pearl onions, & carrots. Both were excellent though could have been served a little bit warmer.
Dessert was a wonderful carrot cake (can't get enough carrots).
