From the start when the greeter recognized our name from the reservation & had a table ready for us, to the conclusion two plus hours later, the entire experience was very good.
The onion soup was served with cheese bread slices, a very different ay of serving French onion soup. We enjoyed it thoroughly.
Our entrees were beef bourguignon & trout fillet. The bourguignon was tender, simmered in a rich wine sauce with carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms, & plentiful mashed potatoes. The trout was served on top of mashed potatoes, asparagus, pearl onions, & carrots. Both were excellent though could have been served a little bit warmer.
Dessert was a wonderful carrot cake (can't get enough carrots).
When you order hamburger, be sure to ask for pink or medium rare. I ordered them on three separate occasions from different servers & none of them bothered to ask how I'd like it done. So they all came out anywhere from well done & very dry.
If you never had poutine you can upgrade your side of fries to poutine for seven bucks. It's pretty decent poutine.
The lunch menu selection is very limited but you may be able to order breakfast past lunch time.
The service is on the slow side so don't come here if you are tight on schedule.
I recommend having the mussels & blue cheese sauce. However don't order it if you go by there yourself. Split it with at least two people if not three & share other dishes.
Overall I think this place is solid but keep your expectation low. It is not nearly as good as the rating suggests. So if you can't find a table don't wait more than ten minutes. You can find alternatives nearby.
-1 for slow service. -1 for billing error that I caught.
We would highly recommended La Buchette, you must try it if you are in Quebec City. When we arrived, Christopher greeted us & went over & above to find us a table during a busy dinner service. Our server Diego was delightful, warm, friendly, funny & extremely knowledgeable about the menu, making suggestions & recommendations for food & selecting a delicious wine. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming & very personal! We were dining with my sister & her husband, we all agreed the'La Buchette experience' was the highlight of our short visit to Quebec City. My husband had the maple glazed pork shank, I had the beef carpaccio with a green salad - both dishes were delicious. In fact we returned to the restaurant the next morning for breakfast & Diego served us again with the same friendly, warm & welcoming service. My husband had the crepes with chocolate sauce & berries, I had the cassolette which was super delicious, perfect over easy eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, fresh spinach, & more all in one dish. It was another fantastic meal with the same super-fantastic service. Merci beaucoup Diego & Christopher you made the experience at La Buchette truly memorable. We will be back! We had the crepes & cassolette, both delicious & super filling. The cassolette was delicious was the la buchette hot sauce. Service was welcoming & attentive. Loved the decor. Lots of taxidermy around. Would recommend
Hello,
I would definitely recommend this place.
The staff gave me a very warm welcome, & I was served what might be one of the best poutines I've ever had. The combination of classic poutine ingredients with the pork sides & mustard sauce was outstanding.
After a long walk, this meal felt like a real reward. The atmosphere, combined with the quality of the food, made it one of the highlights of my trip to Quebec.
Highly recommended!
Thank you for everything
The hunter theme with rabbit heads on the wall was the first red flag. The coffee was under extracted & watery, the breakfast casserolette had spaghetti sauce in it, completely overpowering & inappropriate. Wife liked her oatmeal but it wasn't enough
Great meal. We enjoyed the poutine to start & the cocktails were excellent. The mussels with bacon & bleu cheese sauce (plus frites) was so good. Others enjoyed the halibut with crème sauce & the French onion soup. Waiter was excellent. Good atmosphere & decor - we'll eat there again!
One of my favorite breakfast spots ever! So cozy & inviting. Service is friendly & thoughtful. Servers treat you like family. Try a maple latte! I think of these when I'm home in Florida! You won't be disappointed with the 2 egg breakfast. The bacon is thick & delicious, the potato cakes crispy & fresh. Don't forget a side of delicate crepe with fresh fruit & warm maple syrup. The ambience is so comforting & fun- not stuffy & dark. Love their playlist too!
Dinner offers some creative dishes with a Quebecoise style. I love the tender halibut over the sweet potato puree & roasted vegetables with lemon & caper sauce- melt in your mouth!
We have come here many times- with friend & family & will always return!
One of the coziest restaurants I have visited. Had a delicious poutine La Buchette & a dish with halibut, shrimp, mussels on a bed of mashed potatoes with a very tasty sauce. Our waitress Gabrielle ( I hope I remembered that right 😄) was outstanding, very attentive & informative with a big bright smile.
I recommend this place hands down.
