Review Summary

Laurie Raphaël offers a memorable and elevated dining experience in Québec City, characterized by creative tasting menus that showcase high-quality, local ingredients through meticulous technique. Most guests praise the impeccable, warm, and professional service, often highlighting the personal touches like meeting the team in the kitchen. While the artistic presentation and unique flavor combinations are frequently celebrated as world-class, some patrons note that pricing, particularly regarding wine selections and overall value, can be a point of discussion. The atmosphere is generally described as sophisticated yet inviting, making it a popular choice for celebrations and special occasions where diners appreciate a thoughtfully curated and innovative culinary journey.

Not inexpensive, but worth every penny! The atmosphere, the service, the food are all outstanding. I recommend going with the wine pairings.

Disappointing Experience. Don't get me wrong - service was excellent throughout the evening . food was decent & generally met a one-star, though only just, still one star. I appreciated the generous portion of lobster claw, but the sauce accompanying the lobster tail was overly acidic, throwing off the balance of the dish. At CAD 200 for tasting menu, pricing is reasonable, & there were only a few minor issues. Overall, it's a good option for a last-minute fine dining reservation.

The wine pairing was a major disappointment. I opted for CAD 300 wine pairing (~5-6 glasses). As a wine enthusiast & even paying more than the food cost, I found pairing lacked both quality & progression. The opening wines were promising, with acidity & body that complemented the food well. Unfortunately, the experience quickly declined with a rather uninspiring & low quality Bordeaux Blanc followed by a VdP red served with the main course. For me, the main course is the centerpiece of any tasting menu, & these two wines significantly detracted from the overall dining experience. The pairing simply failed to elevate the food at the point where it mattered most. Wasting efforts of chef team & I onsite did share my opinions to the waiter.

The evening concluded with Dom P 2015 alongside the cheese course. While serving Dom may sound impressive on paper, it does not justify a CAD 300 pairing price tag. Even accounting for the prestige of the label, a single glass is not enough to compensate for the underwhelming selections that preceded it.

In summary, I would return for the service & reasonably priced tasting menu, but I would strongly recommend SKIPPING the wine pairing.

We had previously dined at a Michelin restaurant in France & it was amazing - this one, not so much. Exorbitantly expensive for the taste of the wine & food. Lots of staff interaction & attention & the presentation of the many dishes was unique, inventive, pretty but not that tasty. Over-attention to style & using unusual ingredients that didn't deliver the best flavours & tastes. The wine pairings, for $150.00 each, also failed to deliver. The first whites were good but the red wine from Morocco should have stayed in Morocco as well as the Gavi from Italy. & the finishing cocktail took beautiful Chartreuse & mixed it with lime juice & saki - unique but not delicious. A waste of a French gem.

We did enjoy the amuse bouche & the bbq lobster in sauce. & of course the presentation of all the dishes served was amazing but not delicious. A famous chef once told me that great food should taste like the best that the ingredients can be - so an apple pie should taste like the best apple pie possible, as an example. Not like a bunch of additives to mask the flavour & offer up a conglomerate of palate confusions.

We're sorry we went - for almost a $1,000 for two people we could have had approximately three amazing dinners for two at other excellent restaurants.

Our evening here was amazing! The ambiance, food, wine pairing & especially the service was worthy of its star. Very expensive, but we felt what we experienced was worth it.

We had a wonderful time celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. With the restaurant being family owned & operated, you could feel the pride & warmth from every member of the staff. The meal was stunning. Every time we finished a course we declared it our favorite of the night, just to find the next course equally delicious. We also enjoyed Simon & our lovely wine pairings!!

From start to finish, this was an excellent evening. We each had the 8 course gastronomic experience with wine pairings. Every course was visually appealing & tasted outstanding. The wine pairings were spot on. The service was superb & very attentive. On arrival at the restaurant, we were taken past the kitchen to be greeted by the chef & his staff. I had some dietary restrictions which were respected & accommodated. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I've been fortunate to dine at some of the top Michelin-starred restaurants in the world & genuinely look forward to these experiences. To this day, my benchmark remains Blue Hill at Stone Barns.

With that context, this experience at Laurie Raphaël fell flat. The most glaring issue was the wine pairings. While the wines themselves were pleasant, they did nothing to elevate or interact meaningfully with the food-they felt like standalone glasses rather than thoughtful pairings.

The dishes were undeniably beautiful, but beauty alone isn't enough. Nothing truly wowed, surprised, or lingered. I left with a very large bill, a fair amount of disappointment, & the distinct feeling that I was still hungry-wishing somewhere else was open to get real food.

I would recommend skipping Laurie Raphaël & going to La Planque instead. You'll spend roughly a third of the price, eat a genuinely next-level meal, & leave satisfied rather than underwhelmed.

It was amazing; the food, the courses, the wine pairing, & especially the staff! They all worked in unison to provide the best service!

Good food but it is expected for the price paid. The wine pairing is expensive compared to other restaurants of the same quality. Would likely try another restaurant next time in Quebec City.

Outstanding. The staff were attentive but not pretentious. They were friendly, unassuming, & seemed to enjoy providing a noteworthy experience. Each course was visual art, & the taste was complex. The ingredients complemented the protein but did not overpower it, Wine pairings were very good, some lesser known wines & some famous ones. Overall a memorable experience.
