This was a terrific experience. Enjoyed the restaurant's attention to detail, relaxed atmosphere & flavorful menu.
Cuisine inventive, un plaisir pour les yeux & la bouche! Service professionnel, attentionné & courtois. & quel accueil!
Disappointing Experience. Don't get me wrong - service was excellent throughout the evening . food was decent & generally met a one-star, though only just, still one star. I appreciated the generous portion of lobster claw, but the sauce accompanying the lobster tail was overly acidic, throwing off the balance of the dish. At CAD 200 for tasting menu, pricing is reasonable, & there were only a few minor issues. Overall, it's a good option for a last-minute fine dining reservation.
The wine pairing was a major disappointment. I opted for CAD 300 wine pairing (~5-6 glasses). As a wine enthusiast & even paying more than the food cost, I found pairing lacked both quality & progression. The opening wines were promising, with acidity & body that complemented the food well. Unfortunately, the experience quickly declined with a rather uninspiring & low quality Bordeaux Blanc followed by a VdP red served with the main course. For me, the main course is the centerpiece of any tasting menu, & these two wines significantly detracted from the overall dining experience. The pairing simply failed to elevate the food at the point where it mattered most. Wasting efforts of chef team & I onsite did share my opinions to the waiter.
The evening concluded with Dom P 2015 alongside the cheese course. While serving Dom may sound impressive on paper, it does not justify a CAD 300 pairing price tag. Even accounting for the prestige of the label, a single glass is not enough to compensate for the underwhelming selections that preceded it.
In summary, I would return for the service & reasonably priced tasting menu, but I would strongly recommend SKIPPING the wine pairing.
We had previously dined at a Michelin restaurant in France & it was amazing - this one, not so much. Exorbitantly expensive for the taste of the wine & food. Lots of staff interaction & attention & the presentation of the many dishes was unique, inventive, pretty but not that tasty. Over-attention to style & using unusual ingredients that didn't deliver the best flavours & tastes. The wine pairings, for $150.00 each, also failed to deliver. The first whites were good but the red wine from Morocco should have stayed in Morocco as well as the Gavi from Italy. & the finishing cocktail took beautiful Chartreuse & mixed it with lime juice & saki - unique but not delicious. A waste of a French gem.
We did enjoy the amuse bouche & the bbq lobster in sauce. & of course the presentation of all the dishes served was amazing but not delicious. A famous chef once told me that great food should taste like the best that the ingredients can be - so an apple pie should taste like the best apple pie possible, as an example. Not like a bunch of additives to mask the flavour & offer up a conglomerate of palate confusions.
We're sorry we went - for almost a $1,000 for two people we could have had approximately three amazing dinners for two at other excellent restaurants.
Masterpiece in Quebec City
My recent dining experience at Laurie Raphaël was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable-attentive, refined, & perfectly paced.
What truly set this visit apart, however, was their exceptional hospitality toward my family. They provided us with a private room, which made our dining experience incredibly comfortable & stress-free, especially with children in tow. It is rare to find such a high level of thoughtfulness in a fine-dining setting.
As for the cuisine, it was simply sublime. The depth of flavor, creativity, & presentation far exceeded the standards of a one-star Michelin experience. Every course was a work of art that delighted the palate.
If you are visiting Quebec City, Laurie Raphaël is an absolute must-visit. It is truly a world-class establishment that balances sophistication with genuine warmth. We cannot wait to return.

Merci,
Sylvie C.
