Always amazing. The authentic & refined ambiance from that period is hard find now a days. The food is amazing, the service is excellent, & the whole experience is just one of a kind. The best steakhouse in Quebec City with that touch of nostalgia. A must try !
We have visited the restaurant in past years, & were left underwhelmed this time. The service was courteous & friendly, but we were disappointed with the low flames, & the presentation of our dishes were lacking, especially our two flambée desserts. The steak & duck were tasty, but be ready for heavy use of butter. Our favorite Alaska bomb dessert was not on the menu. It's just a shame that the menu is static & there's no attempt to be creative like so many restaurants in the city. We are considering not returning in our upcoming visits.
Our fantastic dining experience began as soon as we walked in the door. We were greeted at the door & welcomed. All of the restaurant staff that saw us welcomed us & made us feel like we were regulars, even though this was our first visit. We ordered wine from the by-the-glass list; there was a very diverse list of wines & all of the wines on the list were very highly rated & the wine we had lived up to its very high rating. I also had the bartender make me a custom mocktail that was very good.
My main course, veal. was prepared in the kitchen & my spouse's steak was prepared tableside. Both were prepared beautifully & exactly as requested. The waiters were very attentive, but did not hover. Nabil, our waiter, made sure he understood our orders & requests & made sure that everything was done perfectly. The restaurant was obviously an older establishment but was spotlessly clean with very comfortable furniture & furnishings. Prices were higher than average, but not exorbitant & what one would expect for the exceptional service & food quality provided.

This was a difficult review for me. It was our anniversary dinner (28 years) & our first night in Quebec, so I made our reservations here because it appears to be awesome online. The property is gorgeous, so I'd love to say the atmosphere was amazing, but to be honest, we felt like our evening was completely rushed. They specialize in preparing (cooking) your steaks at your table. So at any one time there might be 3 tables with 3 pans with a lot of flame underneath, sometimes flashing nearly to the ceiling, all while what seemed like dozens of waiters running back & forth in a flurry of busy-ness. Our waiter seemed anxious for us to order, returning repeatedly to our table before we'd had time to read the wine/cocktail menu, & the food menu. Then when we ordered, he seemed irritated that we didn't order steaks, & every step of the evening felt rushed. Plates were taken from us even before we had completely finished. My wife & I prefer to keep both our plates on the table until both of us are finished, but we were not asked: they just grabbed my plate from me. Food flavors were OK, but did not really stand out, like the ambiance implied. Perhaps the steaks really are the thing to order here. The wine selection is very good, & again, the place itself is gorgeous.
I brought my wife to Le Continental to celebrate her birthday. Upon entering I was struck by the delicious smell as well as the classic decor & the white-jacketed wait staff. Old world elegance was everywhere!
The cocktails & appetizers were amazing. But the true centerpiece of the evening were the steaks, cooked perfectly table-side! To cap it off we finished with the cherries jubilee, also cooked table-side.
When in Quebec, I highly recommend dinner here, a Quebec institution since 1956!
Fantastic service, staff were very professional, prompt & attentive. We started with a Caesars salad made at the table, shrimp cocktail & a lobster bisque. The main was the veal medallion & Sirloin Sirloin steak, served with vegetables. Sirloin was cooked to perfection (medium rare) & the veal medallion were very tender.
The flambe experience is awesome. Steak was cooked medium rare, & melted easily in the mouth. The escargots were surprisingly tasty, & I didn't expect to like them as much as I did. Definitely worth a go if you never try. It tastes kind of similar to palak paneer. Medalion de mushrooms was creamy & a little bit spicy. The crab appetizer tasted amazing with the mushroom garlic sauce. The coconut chocolate easter egg dessert was well done too (it was an easter special). All in all a fun michelin dining experience
I had fairly high expectations for this French restaurant. When we walked in, the smell of butter from the kitchen was wonderful & the staff looked professional, so the first impression was actually very promising.
Unfortunately the food was disappointing.
We ordered escargots, foie gras, & scallops, & every dish was extremely salty. The saltiness completely dominated the flavor, so it was difficult to taste anything else. The scallops were cooked to a decent texture, but their natural sweetness was completely lost because of how salty the dish was.
The bread service was also underwhelming. The bread was cold & the butter came in hard, cold chunks that seemed straight from the fridge - not softened & not seasoned in any way. It felt like the foil was simply opened & the butter was placed on the plate. This didn't really match the overall atmosphere & presentation of the restaurant.
The foie gras pairing also didn't work well. Instead of being served with a crisp toast or something with texture, it came with a dense, slightly soft bread. Since foie gras is already very rich, the soft bread underneath made the whole bite feel heavy & greasy. The bread itself had a powdery texture in the mouth & didn't balance the dish at all.
We noticed that many other tables were ordering steak, so perhaps that is their specialty. But based on the dishes we tried, the experience was quite disappointing.
My steak was a tough as boot leather but it was a decent experience. I would not be rushing to go back though. Our server was a bit of a dud as well. He was nice but rushed as along at every turn. Telling me to please pay the cheque as he was going off shift. I would not recommend to anyone that's wants a great experience!!!
