The great story of a small bistro... Like a treasure buried in the heart of Faubourg St-Jean, a really well-kept secret ... the story of The Hobbit. This small, unpretentious bistro, is a reflection of the character of Tolkien, it carries with it the greatness of a story whose echo is still heard today at the cafe. Over time, it became the place where culinary delights come together in an ambiance worthy of a warm and cozy home. But beware, behind that familiar face, between the stones of this old house lurk ghosts that give The Hobbit that "je ne sais quoi" and make it a place apart from all others.

Le Hobbit stands out as a highly regarded destination in Quebec City, celebrated for its creative and flavorful approach to French-inspired cuisine. Guests frequently highlight the quality and freshness of the ingredients used in both their breakfast and dinner menus, with many dishes noted for their unique textures and complex profiles. While the atmosphere is consistently described as cozy, inviting, and perfect for a special meal, the service experience can vary, as some diners praise the attentive and friendly staff while others note occasional delays during busy periods. Despite these fluctuations in pace, the overall consensus points to a memorable dining experience that offers excellent value and a welcoming environment for both locals and travelers alike.
I had brunch here & it was so delicious that I returned for dinner. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great, & the staff were incredibly friendly & kind. Even the simple brunch items like bacon, sausage, & potatoes were very tasty & showcased the chef's skill. We also had hummus & egg dishes for brunch, & everyone in our group was very satisfied. For dinner, we had fried bread, scallops, salad, steak, & the seafood of the day, & everything was excellent. This is definitely a restaurant I would visit again next time I'm in Quebec.
Went to have brunch at this restaurant with some friends. I first ate there in 2018 or 2019 - that time i had eggs benedicts on a parisbrest bread, & it was honestly one of the best eggs benedicts i've had - so i was really excited to go back. Sadly, my experience this time was not great. While the service & atmosphere were excellent, I was very disappointed with the food, as the portions were much smaller than they used to be, & the food was extremely blend (barely any taste in most dishes except maybe the bene-ghetti which had some flavour). Won't be recommending that place anymore... unless they step-up (& they need to step up quite a lot).
We had a great meal at le hobbit! They are very creative with their dishes & they are very yummy. Excellent service! The deviled eggs in beet sauce were very surprising & so delicious!
Food was delicious. Portions are meant to be shared, so advised to order 2 dishes per person. Server & cook were very friendly & attentive to our allergies.
We had a splendid experience. Went to Le Hobbit for the New Years Eve fixed 8 course menu. Very interesting dishes, like raw scallops with burnt leeks, charcoal battered frog legs with foie gras, veal tongue with a variation of tomatoes, or the fig tip ice cream. Flawlessly executed. Service was great, too, with no rush ( though people were piling up at the door, waiting for their tables ). Thanks to the Le Hobbit Team for an extraordinary evening, we will remember for a long time ❤️
Reservation required a deposit, which was unusual. Food (two main & one appetizer dishes we tried) was very blank. Kids pasta & homemade bread was probably the tastiest parts. Wine tasted spoiled & frankly should have been returned. Overall, way overrated place at the moment.
Le Hobbit in Quebec City, is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of this enchanting French-Canadian city. With the spirit of adventure coursing through my veins, I embarked on a culinary journey that transcended time & space, almost reminiscent of Tolkien's Middle-earth, where the unexpected & magical converge.
As I stepped into this quaint establishment, I couldn't help but marvel at its intimate ambiance. The rustic charm & warm, earthy tones transported me to a world of elegance, where each corner whispered tales of old Quebec. It was as if I had stumbled upon a hobbit's haven, with its cozy nooks & crannies, inviting patrons to escape the bustling city streets.
Now, let's talk about the pièce de résistance – the food. Le Hobbit's menu is a symphony of flavors that danced on my palate like a finely orchestrated composition. The dishes, rooted in French-Canadian tradition with a touch of whimsy, pay homage to the region's culinary heritage. The wild mushroom poutine, adorned with a rich truffle gravy, was a revelation of earthy indulgence. & let's not forget the maple-glazed pork belly, a dish that exemplified the perfect balance between sweet & savory, a true homage to Quebec's iconic maple syrup.
The wine list at Le Hobbit is an oenophile's dream, featuring an array of local & international selections that complemented the menu beautifully. The attentive & knowledgeable staff guided me through pairings that elevated my dining experience to new heights.
But what truly sets Le Hobbit apart is its commitment to farm-to-table sourcing. The ingredients, fresh & locally sourced, tell a story of the Quebecois terroir, a narrative that resonates with the restaurant's dedication to sustainability.
As I savored the last morsel of my dessert, a delicate maple sugar tart, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for stumbling upon this culinary oasis in Quebec City. Le Hobbit captures the essence of both the city & its surroundings, offering a dining experience that is as magical as it is rooted in tradition.
Le Hobbit is a gastronomic treat that bridges the realms of fantasy & reality. It's a place where the spirit adventure & the soul of Quebec come together, inviting you to indulge in a culinary journey that will leave you spellbound & craving for more. This, my friends, is a culinary experience worth embarking upon, a testament to the magic that can be found in the most unexpected corners of the world.
It was a great experience! We ordered three courses for dinner & the ingredients in each dish, especially the vegetables, really stand out. Duck breast, roasted fennel with fresh cheese, & the banana cake were our favourites! Some suggestions for consideration - the meat in our main dishes were overall a bit greasy; some of the dishes/ingredients were too salty; & the carrot flavour was overwhelmed by other ingredients in the carrot cake. It was overall a great experience!
