About

Bistrot Pape Georges centers its identity on the traditional preparation of artisanal charcuterie and handcrafted sandwiches within an intimate, exposed-stone setting. The menu prioritizes locally sourced cured meats, terrines, and rustic breads that reflect the specific culinary heritage of the region. Patrons select from a curated rotation of artisanal offerings designed to highlight the complex textures and savory profiles of high-quality proteins. Each plate emphasizes simplicity and technical precision rather than elaborate decoration or heavy garnishes. The interior environment utilizes rough masonry and wooden elements to create a functional, focused space dedicated to classic bistro traditions. By maintaining a concise selection of specialty products, the establishment ensures consistent quality across all sandwiches and shared platters for those seeking authentic, focused flavor profiles.

Review Summary

Bistrot Pape Georges offers a unique and historic atmosphere in the heart of Old Quebec, housed in a charming building with stone walls and vintage character. Many guests appreciate the cozy environment, noting it as a perfect spot for enjoying high-quality cheese boards, charcuterie, and a diverse selection of cocktails, wines, and craft beers. While numerous visitors praise the friendly service and delicious menu items like the soup, fish and chips, and poutine, experiences can be inconsistent. Some patrons express concerns regarding food preparation, portion sizes, and pricing, suggesting that the establishment may be better suited for casual drinks than for a substantial meal. Despite varied opinions on dining quality, the location remains a popular destination for those seeking an authentic pub experience with a lively, rustic ambiance.

Fish & chips was excellent with lots of yummy fries.
Mussels with white wine was mediocre as the mussels were so skinny & small.

I'm so glad we made it here. First of all, they have a prime location. & live music! Typically a duo performing. We came to try their poutine & wow they do not disappoint. One-of-kind brown sauce (veal, bbq, red wine etc). All sourced from Quebec! Phil is the best. This is a must-try

Delicious introduction to our first night in QC! Tried the smoked meat sandwich, classic poutine, & the red pepper soup. All were warm & comforting as we settled into the cold. Loved the old & historic nature of the cozy pub - & happily enjoyed a glass of wine where it was the first wine bar to serve wine by the glass in the province!

The food was delicious. I ordered the La Papale with the recommended cheeses. My partner ordered the lobster roll. We each had a Sidecar drink. I think my dish was the favorite. Great attention to detail, with the chef taking pride in his work. We polished it all off with minimal effort. The lobster roll was flavorful, with chunky lobster bites, & done in what they called a traditional Quebec style. It was a cozy space with plentiful outdoor seating as well. We dined inside due to weather, & were treated to watching the chef prepare our food just behind the counter. It was a fun show, & really helped demonstrate his love for the craft. Needs improvement: the Sidecar left a lot to be desired. Too sweet & unbalanced for what I expect in a Sidecar. I think next time I'd pass on a cocktail, in favor of wine or beer. Definitely a place worth checking out.
