Chez Honō, ça se passe dans les gestes, et dans la constance de ces gestes. En tant que nouveaux venus dans la communauté, c'est dans le respect qu'on fait notre place. Saint-Roch, c'est comme une équipe : on le porte fièrement sur notre chandail, et quand il y a des joueurs qui tombent, on est là pour leur tendre la main.
Parlant de respect : pour nous, le respect ça se mesure à travers la somme des parties envers lesquelles on décide de l'appliquer, et c'est ce qui fait notre intégrité. Ici, il n'y a pas de discrimination. Le respect on l'applique partout : aux traditions, aux aliments, aux clients et à leur expérience. Du fla-fla dans notre décor, on n'en veut pas. On n'essaie pas d'influencer le client par quoi que ce soit d'autre que notre soif de parfaire la fusion des cultures japonaise et québécoise.

I had a really great time at this place! Never been to a Japanese tapas before, so it was unique & different from what I am used to. The food is tasty & the'waves' concept (where every dish comes slowly at a time) gave us time to talk over every dish & enjoy the different flavors. The few things we didn't like were: One, the restaurant's layout. It is a modern-style, small establishment with very very cramped seating. The tables are tiny & the room was packed to the brim with people. We were sitting so close to other customers, that if I had stretched both arms left & right, I would have been able to touch the strangers' shoulders. This is a big downside for us as it made it difficult to enjoy our conversation (very loud). Two, the very low lighting. I understand that it is the concept, but I like to be able to see my food when I eat. A slightly brighter room (not neon lighting, but at least light enough to see the colors of the dishes) would have made a big difference. & three, one of the dishes (the salmon skewers) was supposed to be medium rare. We got two skewers: one was completely raw & the other was grilled to medium. We don't like raw fish (& this dish isn't supposed to be raw anyways) & deliberately made a point to ask how it's supposed to be cooked before ordering it. It was clearly a mistake of timing on the grille, & the inconsistency between the two skewers is something that should never happen at such a highly rated place. That said, the waitress was very nice about the whole thing & gave us the next dish on the house, which we really appreciate. Still, it left a bad taste in our mouths. Another imperfection of the place was the inconsistent timing between dishes (although that can be expected when it is made to order). Finally, I will list my recommendations for specific dishes: 1. Chicken thigh skewers (amazing), 2. Duck hearts skewers (fantastic), 3. Quail eggs (very delicate), 4. Beef tataki (unique & new taste), & 5. Rice w/ pork (great taste)
Food was very good! Relaxed vibes & awesome food. Cant go wrong! Our favorite plates were the pork belly (no photos, sorry!) &, suprinsigly, the mushroom yakitory (wow!). Would definitely go back!
Everything we ordered--quail eggs, picked daikon & cucumber, kaarage, pork belly, & the chicken thigh yakitori special--was absolutely delicious! The quail egg dashi was so good I wouldn't let the server take it away, I had to taste it with my rice. The two cocktails I had were inventive & great, especially their take on the aviation. Service was outstanding. This was our second visit to QC & to Hono; hopefully we'll be back soon. Definitely get a reservation!

An unbelievable gastronomic experience combined with exceptional service. I am a huge foodie & this place is just WOW!!
Our server thoughtfully guided us through the menu, making recommendations based on our likes/dislikes. Very much an interactive selection process, which we greatly appreciated. Everything we ordered was amazing, so much flavour, layers of flavouring spectacular & presented so beautifully on the plate.
We ordered: quail eggs, Momo (chicken thigh skewers), Beet salad, salmon, King Eryngi (king mushroom skewers), Karaage (fried chicken), Pork steamed dumplings & Waygu. Dessert Creme Brule Miso & Erable & black sappporo forest cake with black currant. Everything was unreal!! Oh & my Margherita was one of the best I've ever had.
Somehow we lucked out & got the best seats in the house, right by the prep stations. What a spotless & organized kitchen. You can just see the pride the staff take in preparing & serving these dishes.
Make sure you make a reservation days in advance so you won't be disappointed.
The food here was amazing, a must try in QC if you're in the area. It gets busy quick & it's advised to be there 10-20 minutes before opening if you're a walk-in (that's what we did, might be excessive but we were guaranteed a spot). Genuinely the most delicious pork belly I've ever had in my life, crispy exterior & so tender that it melts in your mouth inside. Their seasonal dessert was so refreshing & unique as well, we had a cookie with a cream(?) on it? Divine.
Most dishes were tasty especially, pork dumplings, temaki rolls & sashimi. Tables are very close to each other. Not much privacy or romance at this trendy restaurant.
The reviews certainly weren't lying when they said this is one of the best Japanese restaurants around.
Coming from Toronto where I've had many great Japanese meals, I wasn't sure where this restaurant would rank. After dining there, it's definitely one of the top Japanese restaurants I've been to in Canada! The highlights for us were the edamame, sashimi, & all of the skewers (standout was the pork belly, but the others were all amazing as well). For us personally, the curry karaage & rice bowls were not as impressive, though still great. If I had the chance to come back, I'd treat this as purely an appetizer & yakitori restaurant, because those aspects were extremely delicious & reasonably priced.
Service was also great & attentive, which is important in a place where you will (likely) be ordering multiple times due to the small size of the tables. Hopefully we have the opportunity to try their ramen restaurant next time!
Small & cozy restaurant. Food is excellent. Pork belly, fried chicken, salmon yakitori were stand outs, everything was good. Great friendly service. Pricing is reasonable . Highly recommend.
I want to begin by thanking the Izakaya staff for being so flexible in accommodating so many changes in our reservation. We contacted them by email & they got back to us quickly. They were gracious & helpful each time we had to make changes.
The food was excellent. The wait staff explained the premise of the restaurant is to share many plates across various areas of the menu. All the dishes we ordered were excellent. The tofu curry was outstanding, the sauce was gentle & elegant. The dumplings were amazing, we split our order & got half vegetable & half pork. The sauces the came with were perfect for the fillings.
The service was attentive even though the restaurant was busy.
If you want a nice place to share good food & have delicious drinks, Hon? Izakaya is one of the best options! We had beef takaki (!), pork belly, duck hearts, vegetables tempura, hand rolls & fried balls of salmon, shrimp & potato (!). Everything was so good & well done. We tried four different drinks & our favourites were sakura & la mer noire. Will come back for sure!
