Unexpected Michelin delight in Québec City

On our third day in Québec City, I was craving something warm, brothy, & familiar. A quick Google search led me to Honor Izakaya, just a few minutes from our hotel - & as we approached, I noticed a Michelin Recommendation 2025 sticker on the door. Expectations officially raised.

We arrived at 5:33 PM & the izakaya section was already full, so we went with ramen - & it did not disappoint.

🍜 I ordered the miso ramen, which came with tender pork, bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, & a soft-boiled egg. The broth was rich & savory, slightly salty but deeply satisfying. Everything was perfectly balanced, & exactly what I needed after days of Western food.

Friendly service, cozy atmosphere, & now I understand why it caught Michelin's eye. A lovely little spot that hits the spot.

💡Tip: Arrive early or make a reservation in advance if you want to dine in the izakaya section - it fills up fast.

The BEST okonomiyaki I have ever had! I hate when people say that, but it's really true for me this time. I have tried this in numerous restaurants across the US (we have not yet made it to Japan, but it's on our short list) & these guys nailed it! It was actually a pancake, & it was fluffy, & filled with scallions & flavor. The pork belly melted in your mouth. Every other dish we had was also lip-smacking delicious. We've never had marinated quail eggs, & we swooned over these. The asparagus yakitori was beautifully charred, & the tempura shitakes were creamy goodness. Just wow! Service was attentive & fast. If we make it back to Quebec, we'll definitely return here. Also, what a great value!

Atmosphere was great. Lively & bustling. Service was slow. We had been seated for almost 40 minutes before we got our drinks & they came out after we got our first dish. I'd noted that one person in our party was allergic to gluten in the reservation. It was not until we were seated & had placed our drink order that the server mentioned the gluten allergy noted in the reservation & informed us there were very few GF options. This would have been helpful to know prior to being seated, or even before we got to the restaurant, since they obviously knew because they proactively mentioned it to us after we ordered our drinks, & especially since there was a question about allergies during the booking process. The food we did get was fine (& just fine); the miso sake was mushy (GF), the edamame overcooked (GF, took almost an hour to come out), but the pork shumai (not GF) were yummy. If you can eat gluten this would be a fun place to spend an evening but if not I wouldn't bother going unless you're not hungry (or thirsty, lol).

We had an excellent dinner at Hono Izakaya, don't miss out on the grilled mushroom or pork belly yakitori.

We had a great experience here, food was delicious, cocktails were amazing, & the staff were knowledgeable! The pork dumplings were amazing & the crème brûlée with miso was unique & delicious. We went on a Sunday night & it was full, I recommend getting a reservation ahead of time.

Having had eating experience in Japan I found this to have a french twist. Okonomiyaki with pork fat, green onions, spices & shaved pickled ginger... Um.... Yes please. Food in Japan isn't usually quite as exciting in the mouth. The cukes were fantastic & kimchi was even better.

Chicken thigh, mushroom skewers & leeks were good. Miso marinated salmon was overdressed, pork belly was good but something felt amiss. The pork belly okonomiyaki was confusing. The components were there but not in proportion. A bit over "poutine-ized" nevertheless, would go back for the skewers.

Incredible experience, some of the best Japanese food I've had in North America. Service was exceptional. Would suggest to anyone in Quebec City. The pork belly yakitori & karaage in particular are a must

The dishes at this restaurant are generally delicious. The chicken in the Katsu Curry is tender, but it may upset sensitive stomachs. I wouldn't recommend the pork belly as it's quite fatty & can feel heavy. However, the chicken thigh is excellent with its tender & flavorful meat. The miso soup is a bit salty but tolerable. The King Eryngii mushroom is exceptional! I've never had such juicy & succulent mushrooms elsewhere. It's highly recommended! Also, besides the food, the service provided by the waiters is excellent. They are very patient.

Came here for a late dinner starving & they took us in even though the kitchen closed in 15 minutes & the food was soo good, it blew us away. Everything from the ambiance, the service & food was unexpectedly & pleasantly surprising. Wish we lived in Quebec City so we could eat here again. The pork dumplings & karaage curry are a must try!
