The great story of a small bistro... Like a treasure buried in the heart of Faubourg St-Jean, a really well-kept secret ... the story of The Hobbit. This small, unpretentious bistro, is a reflection of the character of Tolkien, it carries with it the greatness of a story whose echo is still heard today at the cafe. Over time, it became the place where culinary delights come together in an ambiance worthy of a warm and cozy home. But beware, behind that familiar face, between the stones of this old house lurk ghosts that give The Hobbit that "je ne sais quoi" and make it a place apart from all others.
Le Hobbit is widely regarded as a charming and atmospheric destination in Quebec City, celebrated for its creative and flavorful approach to traditional and local cuisine. Many visitors praise the restaurant for its innovative menus, standout brunch offerings, and beautifully presented dishes, with highlights often including the unique foie gras preparations, fresh seafood, and inventive dessert combinations. While the service is frequently described as friendly, enthusiastic, and professional, some guests have noted occasional inconsistencies in pacing or attention. Despite varying opinions on pricing and portion sizes, the majority of diners characterize their experience as memorable and highly recommend the establishment for its cozy ambiance and high quality, making it a must-visit location for many exploring the area.
I really wanted to love this place based on Google photos, their website, & prior reviews, but it was a disappointment. (We only tried Le Hobbit for brunch, so this review only applies to that. Perhaps, the dinner is better). First, there was only one server, so we waited forever to get drinks, food, our bill etc. Service was very slow & uninviting. Second, the food was subpar, & there was way too much food on the plate. I was surprised by the serving size, & the server never warned me or I would have modified my order. The food quality was average at best. This was by far my least favorite breakfast / brunch during our visit to Quebec City. Finally, we sat for a long time waiting for the server to come back with the pay machine only for him to tell us that we need to take the bill to the bar. I really can't recommend this place, but if you go for brunch, just expect it to be a very average experience & probably not worth the money.
Le Hobbit is our new favorite spot in Quebec City. The food is excellently crafted with high quality ingredients. The menu is unique. The staff were all lovely. The atmosphere is cute. This is a perfect french style eatery that is not too abstract in form. It's just the right amount of elevated, while remaining practical as an eatery. I am so delighted have dined for their Easter dinner & then also for one of their fantastic breakfasts. I highly recommend Le Hobbit. Thank you so much. I cannot wait to come back.
The service was good, but the menu wasn't that diversified, & it didn't contain many options without porc, the prices were also high compared to other breakfast restaurants
The coffee was the best I have ever had here in Quebec, except for the coffee I wasn't that much satisfied by the food

Everything about this place is perfect. The warm welcome, attentive friendly service, best coffee, excellent food & great ambience are all so good!
We were visiting the area & ate breakfast here each day of our stay. The flavours of the eggs benedict & salmon gravlax were perfectly balanced. Do yourself a favour & try the deviled eggs too.
Thanks for an awesome breakfast experience & the best coffee in town, from some grateful Aussies.
Amazing place for breakfast. The food was ohenomenal & the staff were very accomodating to us english speakers. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone coming to Quebec City
Some of the best breakfast I've ever had. Absolutely amazing. I will go back every single time I am in quebec city. I would even go out of my way to go here.
Went for breakfast with a friend on a Tuesday. It was very quiet & the service was funny, attentive & helpful. Food was delicious & surprising! Great flavors, well balanced, so yummy.
Service was fast & friendly (even for those whose French could use some work). The food was beautifully presented, the flavors were complex, & we felt we got a hearty breakfast that felt healthy enough that we weren't complete slugs for the rest of the day! Highly recommend
Le Hobbit was fantastic! We went for breakfast on a Sunday & the place was warm & inviting. The waiter was extremely helpful & the meals were fantastic. I had the Eggs Benedict with deer & my partner had the potato waffle with smoked fish. We shared an order of roasted potatoes with herb emulsion. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed the whole experience.
Delightful dinner, first night in Quebec City. Relaxed neighborhood feel. Sebastien, our server, was exceptional. Terrific gravlax, oysters, french onion soup, bouillabaisse was not traditional yet delicious. The creme brulee was outstanding. Enjoyed food & atmosphere so much we returned for breakfast, also delicious & friendly attentive service.
