We discovered this gem along with the other parliament tours of the library & legislative halls. The dining room is reminiscent of Greek architecture while being incredibly upscale. Having been to my fair share of corporate banquets around Europe, this experience exceeds those. We paid $50 for a 3-course tasting menu that would be priced at $80+ in any other restaurant. But combined with the atmosphere of being in a historic building that is still active & relevant today, the meal is presented with gravitas. This is unmissable for anyone visiting quebec city for the first time. I might come here every time I visit!
Merveilleux !
Really disappointing experience, especially given that I visited the restaurant years ago & enjoyed it very much, so thought it would be a great place to take my guests on this trip. We had two entrées, the crusted cod & the tuna tataki - & both were terrible. The crusted cod wasn't crusted pieces of fish as expected, but rather a bland doughy mix of fish & bread that is subsequently deep-fried, & obviously made for the convenience of the kitchen rather than the enjoyment of the customer (although the waitress claimed it was very popular - sure, because no doubt others, like me, expected fish when they ordered it). The tuna tataki was equally disappointing, with just a few thin flavorless slices. Both dishes weren't garnished or seasoned in any way that might save them either. Our main dish, the duck breast, was easily the worst duck I have tried in any restaurant - & this after persuading my guests to try it, as duck in Quebec is often excellent. Not here - it appeared to be undercooked, & tasted like liver - truly terrible. On top of it all, the place, although elegant, was almost deserted, we were rushed a bit as'the kitchen was closing' half an hour after our reservation time slot &, when we told the waitress that the food was not good, her reaction was'eh bien = oh well,' so few points for service & atmosphere. My guess is that they have difficulty attracting or retaining capable chefs, or they just don't care. On the bright side, we enjoyed our drinks, & the dessert - but for the price paid (the tiny tuna tataki alone was $22), absolutely not worth it, & won't return anytime soon.
While being in Quebec we were eating in some very upscale restaurants. The food here was better. Very nice & pleasant experience.
