Offering haute French cuisine inspired by exceptional regional products, renowned chef Jean-Luc Boulay and his team combine traditional know-how and modern techniques to pay tribute to local producers and offer a gourmet, refined and unique gastronomic experience.

Le Saint-Amour is ranked among the top 10 favourite fine dining restaurants in Canada by travellers, according to TripAdvisor (2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020 Travellers' Choice Awards). Our wine cellar , housing over 15,000 carefully selected bottles, is also among the top 10 wine selections in Canada, with prestigious vintages from all over the world. Over the years, we have had the honour of welcoming renowned celebrities, such as Sir Paul McCartney, Sting, Alicia Keys, Johnny Hallyday, Charles Aznavour, and many others, who have chosen Le Saint-Amour during their stay in Quebec City.

Le Saint-Amour was awarded 4 stars by the prestigious Debeur Guide and was crowned Restaurant of the Year in 2011. This recognition is in addition to the many distinctions received by Chef Jean-Luc Boulay : Chevalier de l'Ordre national du Québec in 2024, the highest honorary distinction awarded by the Quebec government, Maître Cuisinier de France, Officier de l'Ordre du Mérite Agricole de France medal, Governor General of Canada's Award for the Arts of the Table, as well as the Prix Hommage Renaud-Cyr. Also recognized for his dedication to passing on his knowledge, Chef Boulay shares his passion with new generations, notably as a permanent judge on the show Les Chefs! , broadcast on Radio-Canada since 2010 and with 13 seasons to date.

An essential address in Old Quebec for local gastronomes and gourmet travelers, Le Saint-Amour embodies excellence and the quest for a culinary experience that is both surprising and unforgettable on a daily basis.

Review Summary

Le Saint-Amour offers a celebrated culinary journey marked by exquisite traditional French cuisine, particularly noted for its exceptional foie gras and perfectly executed main courses. The dining environment, especially within the stunning glass roof atrium, creates a romantic and memorable atmosphere that many guests find to be a highlight of their time in Quebec City. While the vast majority of visitors enjoy impeccable and attentive service, experiences can occasionally vary depending on the busy nature of the evening. Overall, the restaurant remains a premier destination for those seeking a sophisticated gastronomic experience featuring creative, high-quality dishes and an impressive wine selection.

Overall very good. More vegetables would be an improvement. At least one choice of lactose free dessert would have been nice given we gave notice in advance.

Cordialement,

The best restaurant we’ve been to while traveling so far in terms of food, service, & atmosphere. Everything we had was great. Decadent, flavorful, & unique. The staff was friendly & the so e itself was charming.
We had the foie gras experience along with the Lamb & the Guinea Hen. For dessert we had th crème brûlée

We were so disappointed with our meal & experience here.

The dining room is lovely, elegant & calming, really tasteful & attractive decor.

The food was mostly OK. Not earth-shattering (as we had been led to expect), but just pretty good. The best dish was the amuse-bouche, though, & it kind of went downhill from there. The foie gras experience was nice but it was a lot of "same-same" (very tasty/unusual oyster with a (tee-tiny) bit of seared foie gras; but then three different kinds of foie gras terrine that were all very similar; & two foie gras sweets that were just sort of odd). The Wagyu beef carpaccio & scallop & caviar were both meh, nothing really special or notable). Both of our main courses (squab, lamb) were covered in heavy, sweet sauce, with undistinguished sides. The squab in particular was ridiculously expensive ($72), a little dry, & not treated delicately or carefully as one would expect such a dish to be. The cheese course was excellent & the dessert we ordered was fine too.

Our main problem was the service -- inattentive, long delays in bringing wine, bringing the wrong wine. Nobody was rude to us, & the pace of the meal was OK, but it was just very hard to enjoy the experience when we were so overtly being overlooked. Not at all what I expect in a fine dining restaurant (& quite frankly, not the experience our neighboring tables were generally receiving; not sure if that was because we were women, a smaller group than those tables, or English-speaking rather than French; or maybe it was not intentional, but it was very noticeable).

Beautiful place to have dinner in Quebec. Wife's dinner was excellent. My dinner (Tuna) was good but it was not trimmed well so some parts could not be eaten. Wine steward was a bit pushy & talked us into a wine more expensive than what we intended. The desserts were unbelievable! In all, a very pleasant evening that would have been perfect except for the above.

The first course & dessert were out of thiss world great ! Entree (squab & port) were not quite at that level. I had my entree for several minutes before my wine was served - yes it was very very busy with some large parties. I also had to ask for my check versus being asked if we were all set & offering to get our check ready. Definitely will recommened this to friends & will come back !!
