Offering haute French cuisine inspired by exceptional regional products, renowned chef Jean-Luc Boulay and his team combine traditional know-how and modern techniques to pay tribute to local producers and offer a gourmet, refined and unique gastronomic experience.

Le Saint-Amour is ranked among the top 10 favourite fine dining restaurants in Canada by travellers, according to TripAdvisor (2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020 Travellers' Choice Awards). Our wine cellar , housing over 15,000 carefully selected bottles, is also among the top 10 wine selections in Canada, with prestigious vintages from all over the world. Over the years, we have had the honour of welcoming renowned celebrities, such as Sir Paul McCartney, Sting, Alicia Keys, Johnny Hallyday, Charles Aznavour, and many others, who have chosen Le Saint-Amour during their stay in Quebec City.

Le Saint-Amour was awarded 4 stars by the prestigious Debeur Guide and was crowned Restaurant of the Year in 2011. This recognition is in addition to the many distinctions received by Chef Jean-Luc Boulay : Chevalier de l'Ordre national du Québec in 2024, the highest honorary distinction awarded by the Quebec government, Maître Cuisinier de France, Officier de l'Ordre du Mérite Agricole de France medal, Governor General of Canada's Award for the Arts of the Table, as well as the Prix Hommage Renaud-Cyr. Also recognized for his dedication to passing on his knowledge, Chef Boulay shares his passion with new generations, notably as a permanent judge on the show Les Chefs! , broadcast on Radio-Canada since 2010 and with 13 seasons to date.

An essential address in Old Quebec for local gastronomes and gourmet travelers, Le Saint-Amour embodies excellence and the quest for a culinary experience that is both surprising and unforgettable on a daily basis.

Review Summary

Le Saint-Amour offers a celebrated culinary journey marked by exquisite traditional French cuisine, particularly noted for its exceptional foie gras and perfectly executed main courses. The dining environment, especially within the stunning glass roof atrium, creates a romantic and memorable atmosphere that many guests find to be a highlight of their time in Quebec City. While the vast majority of visitors enjoy impeccable and attentive service, experiences can occasionally vary depending on the busy nature of the evening. Overall, the restaurant remains a premier destination for those seeking a sophisticated gastronomic experience featuring creative, high-quality dishes and an impressive wine selection.

The service & the wine selections were impeccable. Staff could not have been more accommodating, however, food was average at best very uninspiring, we have had tasting menus all over the city, & this was by far the worst food experience.

A wonderful dining experience, & a perfect way to get to know some of the local cuisine. We had the 7-course tasting menu with the classic wine the pairing. The service was excellent. The food was incredible, the portions perfect.

I was disappointed to have the amuse bouche & the intermezzo as two of the seven courses of the Discovery tasting menu. In my experience, at other restaurants with other tasting menus, they have been over & above the courses presented.

Our impression: when we only ordered a bottle of wine instead of the wine pairing with the 7 course tasting menu offered for $250 per person, our waiter was no longer attentive to our table. All our courses were then delivered by the woman clearing the tables
A very unwelcoming evening.

The service was efficient. Team of servers worked well together. Warm welcome & departure. Plating of courses for tasting menu was interesting & appealing until the main course, piglet, which was so disappointing to the point of being a turnoff. We were offered a special dessert to compensate but weren't interested by that time. Foie gras course was highlight.

FRIDAY, june 16, 2023. very limited menu with odd selections. we opted for the 7 course tasting menu, $155.00 pp. very disappointing. our worst dining experience of the weekend. amuse bouche was a small meatball in a bread coating over a slice of carrot. Please excuse the everyday wording of the food. i am not a foodie, but i am calling it the way we saw it. i am sure there was a lot of work in preparing these dishes, & the explanation & presentation was excellent. you could tell the servers & staff were passionate about their craft. second course was foie gras with toast points. 3rd course was three small (quarter sized) scallops with a slice of leek. fourth course was waygo beef (raw) with micro greens & parsnip puree. A pallet cleanser was served. rasberry sorbet with an alcohol base. the alcohol was distracting & detracted from the serving (in our opinion) the main course was a pork chop with mussell (1 musssell) greens & 3 orange slices. the flavors & textures of this dish did not go well together. best part of the meal was a cream puff with ice cream. they also offered a wine pairing for $ $135.00 pp. (we did not take). if you are a foodie, maybe this is a place you would enjoy, but we would not return.
