We shared the tasting menu for 2 & it was absolutely wonderful! We had the beet tartare, the aranchini, the mac & cheese, & the cauliflour. Everything was perfect. The dishes are very creative & the flavours are intentional. Would recommend, & we will be coming again. 🥰
Cuisine excellente, créative & originale. Un bon choix de bières locales. Un peu d'attente pour le service mais ça en vaut la peine.
Contrairement aux précédents avis, je trouve les portions de bonne taille.
Très bonne expérience
My partner & I came at 5:55PM on a Monday. We had a reservation for 6:30, but we were seated early which was kind. The restaurant wasn't full, & I don't think it ever got beyond 75% of its capacity for a chilly December Monday. My partner & I ordered the six course tasting meal for two. I had the Ponce to drink (whisky & maple syrup), my partner had a warm wine.
Notes
+No issues communicating with quite poor French to the waitstaff; people were accommodating.
+The drinks were quite affordable. Cocktails for 7-9 USD (10-12 CAD) is a good deal in any city.
-We waited three hours to be served two drinks & the six course tasting menu. A table next to us received all six of their courses in the time it took us to receive our final three courses & the check. The first two courses came out in a timely fashion, but it was about 45 minutes between courses by the time the back half came around. Mind you, the place wasn't too busy & there wasn't much food to cook. We did feel like a bit of an afterthought.
-We didn't receive new cutlery until the final course with the dessert. The same forks & knives for the first five courses.
-By the time the fifth course had finished, I asked my partner if she wanted to go somewhere else after this for food, between how small the portions are & how long it took to come out. I don't think the food was completely substantial with the price. This place might be 15-20% more expensive than it should be between the service (see cutlery point above), the lack of creativity in some of the dishes & the overall execution.
Drinks
+A cinnamon stick in the drink was quite festive & a very nice touch
-My cocktail became rich & overbearing after I was about halfway through with it. The first half was much more enjoyable than the second half of it.
-My partner's warm wine wasn't anything to write home about.
Course 1 (Stuffed tomato)
+This was my favorite course, the cashew cream was fantastic & the tomato was delicious. This set the bar incredibly high.
-This might've been a dish where it made sense to have individual plates instead of eating from the same dish as your dining partner.
Course 2 (Cream of onion soup)
+The soup was quite creamy & easy to get through
+This was my partner's favorite course. She loved the soup
-I think the richness of the creamy soup & the grilled cheese was a bit heavy for a second course.
Course 3 (The carpaccio)
-This was quite forgettable, feeling like a requisite beet addition to a vegan tasting menu.
+The virgin apple vinaigrette & croutons did well to offset the bitterness of the beets which was a bit overwhelming
Course 4 (The cabbage flower)
+I have never had seitan, which accompanied the cauliflower. My partner thought it was quite similar to meatless bacon, for what that is worth.
-I believe the seitan could be more creatively integrated into the dish. It was almost like when you order your bacon off to the side at a breakfast place & they serve it on a separate plate.
+The cauliflower was well roasted
Course 5 (Ceviche)
-Unfortunately, this was quite similar to the third course. I understand beets & radishes are not the same, but both were quite bitter with the saving grace for this being the coconut milk
-The daikon was sour, overpowering, & bitter to the extent that the nori flakes didn't do much for the dish
Course 6 (Cake of the moment + The churro dish)
+this was a good dish before the bill, to send people home happy
+it is difficult to mess up cake & a churro (even vegan). This was good but I don't think it was the most creative & original
Summary
Some of the tasting menu was fantastic. Some of it was mediocre & lacked originality or creative thought. It took three hours in a less than busy restaurant for us to get through the tasting menu on a Monday evening.
Wow! Everything about this restaurant was 5*. For three people, we ordered 4 dishes (dish of the day raviolis, cauliflower steak, Ceasar salad, & bur*ata) & dessert (creme brûlée). Every dish was so flavourful, so creative, & so well balanced. The service was attentive & very pleasant. We all had a great time.
What a great little restaurant we just happened to walk by & try! Im not vegan but i love trying vegan restaurants because they are usually so creative & I was not disappointed! The food was delicious, staff was friendly & attentive, & the music & vibes were immaculate. A must try if you're in quebec & are a foodie.
Great vegan food! This is a small, casual restaurant with a short menu. But everything on the menu is vegan, & every offering is fabulous. Beautiful presentation, creative & delicious meals. We had the watermelon gazpacho; the asparagus cream, mushroom & seasonal fruits; & the fried gnocchi & coco-curry. Each dish was more delicious than the other. & the staff were lovely; so helpful & friendly. A short & easy walk from Vieux Quebec. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Quebec City.
