Worthwhile dinner with children. Friendly service, fun vibe. Kids menu priced at $12 came with tasty shepherds pie & a generous piece of maple fudge. The house specialty salad with cured salmon & bacon was nice. The tourtiere was a miss, skip it.
Went for brunch on Easter Monday with my family (3 adults & 2 kids) & really enjoyed it.
The service was excellent: La Bûche is lucky to have servers like Yoan & Audrey. Yoan recommended the Cassolette du bûcheron, & it was really, really good - eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, mushrooms, béchamel, potatoes, spinach, & cheese curd in a mini cast iron. There was something special about it that set it apart from a typical breakfast plate. Also, the toast was like eating a cloud.
The menus are printed in old-school Canada workbook style like the ones we had in school growing up. & yeah, everyone wears flannel, but I don't know anything more Québécois than bathroom soap dispensers made out of Labatt 50 bottles.
Hearty, tasty food, fun vibe, good service. Definitely going back.

La Buche is our favorite breakfast place hands down. It is a must every time we visit Quebec. The maple syrup on a stick & maple bacon are our favorite treats. We highly recommend that you check it out.
Everything was great except when they ask if you'd like bread delivered to the table, you will pay for it . It was $10.50 for 3 buns & butter for 3 people. The server asked if we wanted bacon on our shepperds pie & we said'sure' 2 strips of bacon on top cost $8.00.
Beware of the up selling!
Our group of 6 had a great & unique dining experience at La Buche in March 2026. We loved the great selection of traditional hearty Quebecois dishes &'lighter' perhaps more modern dishes. They covered the range for all to have a great meal. I especially enjoyed the custom house Bloody Mary that came garnished with celery, shrimp & bacon! As good as the food was, the service & atmosphere were awesome & made it a true event. If visiting Quebec, you must go here!
An urban sugar shack in the heart of Old Quebec? Mais oui! It was fabulous! We went New Year's Day (highly recommend to get reservations in advance so you do not wait in the cold), & the atmosphere is so warm & inviting, you feel immediately at home! It was very kind that they tend to seat visitors in the rooms away from the frigid air...if you come in the front door, the first two rooms are a bit chilly, so they tend to put visiters in the warmer rooms of the restaurant out of the cold! Very kind! The pea soup is extraordinary, you must try, the shepherd pie is very tasty & a generous portion, if you are not four people, I recommend the mini-version of the sugar shack plate complete with Canadian bacon, sausages, crepe with maple butter & blueberries, scrambled eggs, beans, a really good breakfast meatball, & much more! A band played music quebecoise. It was amazing. You can even get maple taffy that you make on an ice top bar. Make sure to check it out, & next door is their gift shop where you can take home Karibou wine & fun souvenirs! A must-see!
You will be squeezed in like cord wood, but will enjoy every minute! The bacon 🥓 😋! There was a magician & a musical duo on Christmas morning 😍. Make reservations!
Got the pate chinois (Quebec shepherds pie) from the lunch menu with maple bacon on top. So good! Service was quick & friendly, & the atmosphere was very welcoming.
