Great atmosphere & decor inside, very cosy. Food really good & the option to upgrade your fries to poutine on some dishes is great. The poutine is really delicious. No real veggie options apart from the poutine but it's great.
Beau service !
We ate at La Bûche family-style & shared everything.
We had the deer tartare, poutine, meat pie, pea soup, maple glazed pork loin, & finished with maple syrup pie.
It felt like a really, really good homemade meal.
I wasn't sure about the deer tartare going in, but it ended up being my favorite thing.
The poutine & pea soup were fine, but I wouldn't get them again.
Everything else was fantastic. I could easily eat there every day & just keep trying things. Not because everything would be my favorite, but because I trust it's solid ingredients made well.
We'll try to go anytime we visit.
The pie was also crazy good.

I was skeptical that this might be a tourist trap, especially since it's located in the heart of old town of Quebec & has way too many reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend the breakfast poutine. Im not a poutine person but very much enjoyed it. Also visit the washroom lol it's very cool.
I couldn't write a review glowing enough to adequately hype up how incredible La Buche is. I found it by searching around for family friendly restaurants & it's a 3 minute walk from Cheatau Frontec, where we were staying. We went on a Saturday evening & it was fairly busy but we had a nice window table right away. The host was one of the nicest people I've ever encountered in the restaurant industry. They didn't have any high chairs for our 9 month old, so he sent someone to a nearby establishment to pick one up for us. He was continually coming to chat with our daughters, & even spent a minute to sit & interact with the baby. He is a true gem andI hope La Buche knows how lucky they are to have him!
Our server was equally excellent. I practice French as much as possible & he was patient, answered the couple of pronunciation questions I had, & was just generally wonderful.
My husband & I split a fois gras & it was excellent. I had a pork dish with puréed carrot & it was the perfect portion size. Everything was super well prepared. I forget what my husband had, the poutine perhaps? Whatever it was, he enjoyed it. & oh my goodness, the rolls are delicious. Definitely do not skip them. My daughter struggled a bit as she got the croquettes & they were very meat heavy. & she's been on a French fry strike lately, so she ate other things off our plates & it worked out.
Also definitely take a trip to the bathroom. One of the coolest restrooms I've ever seen.
Restaurant La Bûche was the perfect spot for our first night in Quebec. It was crowded & buzzing in the best way, with a lively, welcoming energy. The décor is campy but charming & adds to the fun, casual vibe. Our waitress was incredibly friendly & helped make the experience even better.
Food highlights were the poutine with meat topping-truly excellent & addictive-the French onion soup, deer tartare, & the make?your?own maple taffy for dessert, which was a fun & memorable finish. The only miss was the meat pie, which I really wanted to love but found a bit too dry & could have used more broth or gravy.
Overall, a lively, comforting, & very Quebecois meal that we thoroughly enjoyed.
Obviously a very touristy spot, but I think it's still well worth your time for the very authentic Quebecois ambience, food, & music. We had a great server & we enjoyed the fun & raucous atmosphere. Both the food & drinks were solid & it was one of the better poutines we had between both QC & Montreal. Worth a visit!
