If you want an elevated'sugar-shack' experience without attending one; this is your spot. We went for dinner service & the gentleman that was serving us was by far the best customer I've receive in hospitality in a very long time. Personable & courteous. (Please give a high five to the Chilean gentleman.)
Now the food- we had the $70 per person feast that allows you to try majority of their menu. The show stopper was the foie gras pudding chômeur. A beautiful balance between sweet & salty. Honestly probably the reason why this dish set the bar so high. Also, don't try to finish everything on your own, you'll just make yourself sick lol. It's decadent but so good. We also had the salmon tartare & deer tartare. The salmon was unfortunately too fishy & the deer tartare needed some brightening/acidic flavour profile. The rest: meat tasted too dry for my personal liking.
Overall, I would personally give the food itself a 6.8/10.
The experience itself was great.
Music & decor was eclectic.
Great if you're out of town, want to bring someone from out of town.
amazing traditional quebecois restaurant. my boyfriend & i got the cabane a sucre plate to share with an extra french toast & it was the best brunch i've ever had. incredibly balanced between salty & sweet. the ambiance is great too. 10/10 recommend & i made a reservation beforehand which was good during peak brunch hours.
Food was just alright I really don't get the hype I had better food else where without having to get a reservation. Otherwise it was cute & service was average just busy because I think they all status at the same time relatively
My teenage kids had a blast here-- it was a highlight of our trip-- great food, fun ambiance, & so much energy in the room. Noisy & boisterous-- they loved it.
Food was good! (At least what we ate)
Service was amazing. They have accommodated all our desires & gave us a lot of good impressions!
However, I still think its little bit overrated,
probably because of the New Year's season!
Overall I would still recommend to visit!
An urban sugar shack in the heart of Old Quebec? Mais oui! It was fabulous! We went New Year's Day (highly recommend to get reservations in advance so you do not wait in the cold), & the atmosphere is so warm & inviting, you feel immediately at home! It was very kind that they tend to seat visitors in the rooms away from the frigid air...if you come in the front door, the first two rooms are a bit chilly, so they tend to put visiters in the warmer rooms of the restaurant out of the cold! Very kind! The pea soup is extraordinary, you must try, the shepherd pie is very tasty & a generous portion, if you are not four people, I recommend the mini-version of the sugar shack plate complete with Canadian bacon, sausages, crepe with maple butter & blueberries, scrambled eggs, beans, a really good breakfast meatball, & much more! A band played music quebecoise. It was amazing. You can even get maple taffy that you make on an ice top bar. Make sure to check it out, & next door is their gift shop where you can take home Karibou wine & fun souvenirs! A must-see!
