Le Cochon Dingue specializes in hearty comfort food centered on signature pork preparations, including fall-off-the-bone ribs and savory tourtière. The menu highlights Quebecois culinary traditions through generous portions of crispy fries, fresh salads, and decadent maple-infused desserts. Rustic wood interiors and communal table settings define the atmosphere, fostering a lively and unpretentious environment for groups. Patrons frequently select the house-made sauces and artisanal charcuterie platters that anchor the expansive food selection. Efficient service keeps the bustling space moving while maintaining a focus on consistent quality in every served dish. This establishment remains a staple for those seeking substantial, flavor-forward meals prepared with traditional techniques. The dedication to authentic regional ingredients ensures a distinct profile that distinguishes the experience from standard casual dining venues found across the province.
Le Cochon Dingue is widely regarded as a popular destination in Quebec City, particularly praised for its hearty portions, diverse menu options including breakfast, and consistent quality of comfort foods like pork ribs, poutine, and unique egg dishes. Many visitors highlight the friendly, attentive service and the charming, lively atmosphere, making it a reliable spot for both families and tourists. While the experience is generally positive, some diners noted inconsistencies regarding meal temperatures, occasional long wait times, or a noisy environment due to high volume. Despite a few mixed reviews concerning menu limitations or specific dish preparations, the majority of guests feel it offers great value and a quintessential culinary experience, often encouraging others to visit for a satisfying meal in a vibrant setting.
The Poutine was awful! The cheese curds were only partially covered with lukewarm gravy & were like rubber. It took two hours before I could get rid of the nasty residual taste in my mouth. The restaurant is on a fairly busy road.
We went on Sunday, just in time for lunch. So much a cute space, tight quarters, but we didn't care. It added to the atmosphere. Breakfast poutine, grilled cheese & cocktails to start our time in Quebec City off. Our waiter was lovely & helpful. Didn't correct our terrible attempt at speaking French & played along. Would absolutely return!
We sampled a bunch of different menu items. The classic beef tartare, one of the listed favourites, can be divisive & not for everyone. Personally, it was a treat for me trying out something different, but I do not think everyone would appreciate its almost raw meat & liver-like texture. The Tartare comes with fries, a salad, & crouton to round up the order.
We upgraded the side of fries that came with the Tartare into their Tout Cochon poutine. I was happy with that option that way I was able to sample their house poutine without needing to dedicate a full meal order for it. I can say this was among the best poutines I have had. The gravy was rich & flavourful. The poutine was also loaded with a variety of different proteins like the Gaspor farm ham & the bacon-wrapped sausage. The perron cheese curds also perfectly topped off the whole dish.
Our last order was the Quebec pork chop marinated & grilled with maple & tamari. It was served with apple chutney, sweet potato mash, & seasonal vegetables. It is exactly as you would expect with the ingredient details of the dish's name. You get a lot of different flavour profiles & textures with the meal order. Some saltiness with the pork chop then some sweetness with the apple chutney. Meaty tenderness with the pork chop, mushiness with the potato mash, & then some slightly crunchiness with the seasonal vegetables.
We dined on Sunday lunchtime the day before Family Day. There were people waiting to be seated by the time we arrived, but fortunately our group of only 2 people has a table spot available so did not need to wait. We were led down flights of stairs to the lower floor which was level with the street below. The whole place with its classic walls & decor exudes with classic charm.
I would like to give this resturant a 3.5 out of 5, but the option is not available. For an appetizer we had a sharing plate with duck wings, fried cheese & a poutine. The duck wings were very good. The poutine & fried cheese were ok. For our main dishes we had duck breast & seafood linguini. I am sorry to say but the duck breast was very chewy & I was disapointed with it. The sweet potato purée underneath it was actually quite good though. The seafood linguini was good but we have had better at other resturants. That being said the pear cocktail was very good! We ended up getting 2. Dispite the above we still gave dessert a shot. We had the crème brûlée & it was good, but again, I have had better elsewhere. The location is very convenient if you are visiting ville de Québec as a tourist. The service was very very good. In the future I would only go back to try breakfast. Something that initially concerned me was the size of the menu, which makes it difficult to keep the quality of each dish high. My reccomendation would be to remove some options & choose to focus in a certain area.
We went here twice during our stay in Québec & were really satisfied both times. Important for us was the allergene information, which is comforting & reliable. The food also is really good, especially the poutine & the ribs. Its a nice atmosphere & good service & definitely worth a visit.
Excellent service avec Gabriel, nous avons mangé un bonne poutine tout cochon, c'était délicieux. Nourriture e service excellent, je recommande ce restaurant.
