Exquisite place to dine at. Food, service & decor were top notch.

We were so disappointed with our meal & experience here.

The dining room is lovely, elegant & calming, really tasteful & attractive decor.

The food was mostly OK. Not earth-shattering (as we had been led to expect), but just pretty good. The best dish was the amuse-bouche, though, & it kind of went downhill from there. The foie gras experience was nice but it was a lot of "same-same" (very tasty/unusual oyster with a (tee-tiny) bit of seared foie gras; but then three different kinds of foie gras terrine that were all very similar; & two foie gras sweets that were just sort of odd). The Wagyu beef carpaccio & scallop & caviar were both meh, nothing really special or notable). Both of our main courses (squab, lamb) were covered in heavy, sweet sauce, with undistinguished sides. The squab in particular was ridiculously expensive ($72), a little dry, & not treated delicately or carefully as one would expect such a dish to be. The cheese course was excellent & the dessert we ordered was fine too.

Our main problem was the service -- inattentive, long delays in bringing wine, bringing the wrong wine. Nobody was rude to us, & the pace of the meal was OK, but it was just very hard to enjoy the experience when we were so overtly being overlooked. Not at all what I expect in a fine dining restaurant (& quite frankly, not the experience our neighboring tables were generally receiving; not sure if that was because we were women, a smaller group than those tables, or English-speaking rather than French; or maybe it was not intentional, but it was very noticeable).

We arrived at a nearly empty dining room for 6:00p reservation. There was only one other table occupied. We received water & menus promptly then sat for 22 minutes before being greeted by a haughty waiter. No one inquired if we wanted to order wine or food. The other table received attentive service, food & drinks. Perhaps it is because we are Americans & do not speak French? He was unfriendly to the point of rudeness, & obviously sitting for 22 minutes is awkward. After we finally were allowed to place an order we were served by a very nice woman. The food was good but not spectacular. The dining room decor is tired, uninspired & very dated. There are much better restaurants in Quebec City.

This could have been the best meal we have ever had anywhere. The decor is beautiful & the service is very attentive without being obtrusive. The food is exquisitely prepared - we had the lamb (3 ways - chop, filet & shoulder) & the squab, which was richly fruity. The chef is known for his foie gras, which did not disappoint. Excellent meal!

This experience was "over the top". Alex attended to us. We had dinner in the Garden room. All tables were occupied. Our reservation was for 6:15 pm. For the experience we shared one of the appetizers & we each had an entree. The entrees were excellently & artistically prepared. The menus was printed in both French & English. ALL of the staff were bi-lingual. For a French meal experience this is the place! The manager at our hotel raised his eyebrows in approval when we told him we were going to Le Saint-Amour for dinner. We were there 2.5 hours. One of the neighboring tables had a flaming creme-brulee for dessert. We opted out for dessert but had coffee. They also acknowledged our 44th Anniv.! Atmosphere, decor, service & food were all an experience to remember!

Original setting in an atrium behind an old house, very French style (from France), a bit too snobby. The waiter kept pushing us to buy the most expensive wines even by the glass. The bison appetizer was hard to chew, & cold. The ris de veau was much too salty. Portions were small for the price. Decor looks outdated. We were expecting better. A lot of seniors as clients, not trendy.
