Review Summary

Le Saint-Amour offers a celebrated culinary journey marked by exquisite traditional French cuisine, particularly noted for its exceptional foie gras and perfectly executed main courses. The dining environment, especially within the stunning glass roof atrium, creates a romantic and memorable atmosphere that many guests find to be a highlight of their time in Quebec City. While the vast majority of visitors enjoy impeccable and attentive service, experiences can occasionally vary depending on the busy nature of the evening. Overall, the restaurant remains a premier destination for those seeking a sophisticated gastronomic experience featuring creative, high-quality dishes and an impressive wine selection.

We enjoyed the 7 course experience & it was amazing. Our only criticism is that we noted on our reservation that we were celebrating my (big) birthday & at no time during the evening did they acknowledge. We shared a bottle of rose' between 4 ppl & when we were 4 courses in , they should have offered a wine pairing. In my past experience we have been offered a complimentary sip (limoncello, etc) at the end of our experience. This would have been a nice touch.

The dining room was beautiful & we were greeted warmly upon arrival. We chose the tasting menu with wine pairings. The food was mediocre, but service started off strong & attentive.
Unfortunately, the pacing became a major issue. We faced increasingly long waits between courses & pairings. At one point we felt completely forgotten & even stepped outside for some fresh air. The whole meal took three hours, which could have been a lovely experience with better timing, but it dragged on. By dessert, we were bored, tired, & just wanted to leave.
Overall it was okay, so I gave 3 stars. However, for four people, the food, wine, & service did not come close to justifying a $1,500 bill (before tip). We will not be returning.

It's a 5-star, especially if you go in expecting proper robust traditional French cuisine. It's not nouvelle by any means. The squab was bold & delicious. The cod was nuanced & clever. The foie gras'experience' was just that. The recommended sauterne was a perfect pairing, & my Pessac-Léognan 2020 from Les Hauts de Smith for the squab leapt out at you! The chocolate tart dessert was perfect. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable & attentive without being cloying or stiff. The atmosphere is of course perfectly on-theme. Our local friend'warned' us that it will be rich & saucy. That was not criticism but compliment. One must go knowing this.

Spent $630CA for 2 people & the food was just okay. We ordered the tasting & split a wine pairing. For that price the food needs to be incredible & it just wasn't. It definitely wasn't inventive food. The food was stuffy. Maybe ordering a la carte would have been a better value. To me, it's the most expensive tourist trap I've ever been to.

Jonathon was a very good server. He said that he was just starting at Le Saint-Amour but appeared to be very well seasoned. A woman who worked with him (I forget her name) was also quite adept at her role. The tasting menu was quite good, but not superior, which is why we gave it 4 stars. No complaints really. The wine pairing added an extra dimension to the experience & Jonathon was well-informed about each vintage. We particularly liked the Chateau Lamothe Guignard Sauternes 2016. We visited on a relatively quiet Thursday evening & found the ambiance of the space to be comfortable & welcoming. The final price of $570 (USD) for two people was reasonable for the level of service & the quality of the meal with the wine pairing.

I am going to share my honest review. When we arrived the Maitre D' was very nice & welcoming. He showed us to our table but after 35 min of waiting we had no service. The table to next to ours got up & left. I have no idea what happened but it was like the waiter in our section walked out & never came back. I called over the Maitre D' he then was our server & he did an amazing job. We ordered the tasting menu & wine pairing. The food was good but not the best I had in Quebec City & it was the most expensive coming in at $702 USD for two people. I felt some of the dishes lacked passion & had been tossed together. Maybe we came on an off night not sure the 10th of October 2024. In contrast Chez Muffy we ordered the tasting menu & wine pairing total was $560 USD & overall that was the better experience. The only reason I didn't rate this lower was because the Maitre D' really did everything he could after our waiter walked out. If you go here do not get the tasting menu.

I will divide my review into 3 sections 1) Restaurant décor & setting: gorgeous & very fancy - nice interior design & lighting & amazingly very well maintained (as the building itself is pretty old). 2) Food - of course, it is a high quality restaurant with high quality food (if you order a la carte). If you let the server talk you into a mystery menu or degustation menu, hmmm not that great & certainly way, way overpriced. Foie gras is their specialty & is very good, but please ensure you choose your own preferred items. Do not fall for the wine pairing if you are not there for the wine tasting. Way too pricey & a gimmick to make you spend more. 3) Service - we had a tad obnoxious & even condescending waiter, We were celebrating our anniversary & ordered some glasses of Champagne. He was trying to impress us with "this is Queen Elizabeth's favorite champagne/ this was XYZ's favorite this & that" making it sound like we were easy-to-impress peasants. & when we told him "we are not here for the alcohol, but the food", his reply was "I shall find something that caters to your BUDGET!!" to which I replied "oh no, cater it to YOURS, it will be simpler!". He dropped the attitude. We still ended up with close to $1000 for 2 & even with a very generous tip, we got the dirty look when we left. So overall, a very nice restaurant if you know what you want, & try not to get intimidated by the staff - it is a restaurant not the Cannes Festival.

We really enjoyed our dinner. It would have been nice to have the prices of the sampling menu & wine pairing mentioned to us rather than having to ask. Being on PEI I was surprise that the oyster with foie gras was served at room temperature & not cold or chilled.

A wonderful dining experience, & a perfect way to get to know some of the local cuisine. We had the 7-course tasting menu with the classic wine the pairing. The service was excellent. The food was incredible, the portions perfect.

Our impression: when we only ordered a bottle of wine instead of the wine pairing with the 7 course tasting menu offered for $250 per person, our waiter was no longer attentive to our table. All our courses were then delivered by the woman clearing the tables
A very unwelcoming evening.
