Le Saint-Amour was awarded 4 stars by the prestigious Debeur Guide and was crowned Restaurant of the Year in 2011. This recognition is in addition to the many distinctions received by Chef Jean-Luc Boulay : Chevalier de l'Ordre national du Québec in 2024, the highest honorary distinction awarded by the Quebec government, Maître Cuisinier de France, Officier de l'Ordre du Mérite Agricole de France medal, Governor General of Canada's Award for the Arts of the Table, as well as the Prix Hommage Renaud-Cyr. Also recognized for his dedication to passing on his knowledge, Chef Boulay shares his passion with new generations, notably as a permanent judge on the show Les Chefs! , broadcast on Radio-Canada since 2010 and with 13 seasons to date.

An essential address in Old Quebec for local gastronomes and gourmet travelers, Le Saint-Amour embodies excellence and the quest for a culinary experience that is both surprising and unforgettable on a daily basis.

What reviews say

Le Saint-Amour is frequently celebrated as a premier culinary destination in Quebec City, offering a refined and classic dining experience within a stunning, romantic atmosphere. Many guests praise the exceptional quality of the dishes, particularly highlighting the foie gras, perfectly seared meats, and sophisticated tasting menus. While the service is often described as attentive, elegant, and highly professional, creating memorable evenings for special occasions, some visitors have noted inconsistencies in pacing and staff attentiveness. Overall, the restaurant is widely regarded as a must-visit institution that provides a unique and memorable gastronomic journey, even if expectations for perfect timing and service are not always met for every party.

It's a 5-star, especially if you go in expecting proper robust traditional French cuisine. It's not nouvelle by any means. The squab was bold & delicious. The cod was nuanced & clever. The foie gras'experience' was just that. The recommended sauterne was a perfect pairing, & my Pessac-Léognan 2020 from Les Hauts de Smith for the squab leapt out at you! The chocolate tart dessert was perfect. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable & attentive without being cloying or stiff. The atmosphere is of course perfectly on-theme. Our local friend'warned' us that it will be rich & saucy. That was not criticism but compliment. One must go knowing this.

WE got lucky! We arrived with no reservations but were able to score a table for 4. I have indicated that reservations are required & if you really want to dine her, make a reservation! However we had none but they checked & were able to seat us. The dining area filled quickly after our arrival, so again, make a reservation!
The food & service were excellent. 3 ordered the filet & I ordered the scallops. The filet was cooked to perfection. The scallops were served with roasted brussel sprouts, broccoli & small onions. The creme brule was perfectly glazed & the chocolate tartlet was to die for! From looking at previous posts, their menu changes from time to time, but I'm sure you will find something to bless your taste! All 4 of us highly recommend Le Saint-Amour & if we are blessed to return to Quebec City, we'll call ahead for reservations!
