Seasonal vegetables & fresh produce from the market, tasting menu, wine pairing, alcohol-free agreement
L'Orygine offers a remarkable dining destination in Quebec City, celebrated for its creative use of fresh, local ingredients and a thoughtful approach to seasonal menus. Many guests praise the elegant atmosphere and the meticulous attention provided by the staff, who are frequently noted for their warmth, professionalism, and ability to accommodate various dietary restrictions with care and creativity. The discovery tasting menu, complemented by both wine and non-alcoholic pairings, stands out as a highlight for many visitors seeking a refined culinary journey. While experiences can vary based on individual tastes regarding flavor intensity and pacing, the restaurant remains a favored spot for special celebrations and those looking to explore innovative, locally focused gastronomy.
We were celebrating & were not disappointed by our experience. I had the guinea fowl entree & the fennel ice cream paied with the tarragon cake. Very unique creations & fantastic to see the variety on the whole menu especially with the vegan options. Great work Chef & the team. Service was top notch too - the wine pairings suggested were just right.
Amazing food, really disappointing service that is just out of step with the price point/Michelin star. We ordered the tasting menu & our first glass of wine/full dish took 45 minutes to arrive, & our server just sort of avoided eye contact the entire time we were waiting.
Things marginally improved over the course of the evening but still generally felt clunky, where we would feel rushed to finish a glass of wine for the next pairing & then waiting quite a long time after that for the food to come out. They also had a very long heads up we were celebrating my partner's birthday (a big one!) & did not plan anything.
This would be a great spot to order off the à la carte menu for a nicer dinner. I would go elsewhere for a great tasting menu experience
À ne pas manquer! An unforgettable dinner & evening, with great people & service.
The wine list & the ambience are perfect.
It was a perfect place to celebrate our anniversary.
Can't say enough about our honeymoon tasting menu experience at l'Orygine, which was recommended to me by my private club's general manager.
The experience surpassed all expectations, both on the menu & wine pairings; the maitre d' was world-class, & we had the opportunity to sample unbelievable Quebec ingredients we simply do not have access to in Toronto.
Bravo to all involved - an unforgettable experience.
I was hesitant to post this review. My partner & I really were so excited to go to L'Origin. The sebasste (rockfish) was a delicious dish with great complimentary flavours. However, I was just so disappointed with the flavours & quality of most dishes. While creative & aesthetic choices were well executed, when I am paying $500+ for 2 dinners & wine I do expect the flavour to consistently be there as well. I am from a province with many seasonal businesses, & was left with the feeling that they should just be closed for the winter, rather than provide expensive food that just doesn't taste good.
Most dishes had a flavour that drowned out part of the other dishes. We were served a delicious veal tarte that was overpowered by the tarte shell. There was one dish of beets-3-ways & despite loving beets the textures & lack of any other flavour getting through left me disappointed. The mushroom dessert was creative, but had a bad aftertaste.
If you have the extra cash, & reframe the experience as an art exhibition on local food availability & how we are dependent on trade routes for good flavours in our cuisine (especially in winter), then it's interesting, although a little costly.
In the end we were left disappointed with the flavour while the aesthetic of the food was completely on point. It looked good. It presented well. 3 out of the 6 dishes tasted fine (not amazed) & 3 left me very disappointed that this was the restaurant we chose for our holiday this year.
This was my first Michelin Star restaurant & I was surprised at how little flavour most dishes had. I was expecting more, as I've had amazing meals at non-starred restaurants locally. I feel they focused far more on aesthetic than flavour.
Our experience at L'Orygine was nothing short of perfection. My husband & I didn't know what to expect when we ordered the discovery menu but it was exquisite. Firstly, it was an incredibly elegant & excellent vegan menu - every dish was packed with flavour & perfect portions to accommodate 6 courses. The most lovely surprise was the wine selection, as we had no idea every course came with a different type of wine & they all paired perfectly with the food served. To top it all off, our server, Sam, was so attentive & kind; he was really the cherry on top of an already impeccable experience. My husband & I are still raving about L'Orygine even the next day. Thank you for such a special & amazing dinner experience. We can't wait to come back!
We had an exceptional meal at L'Orygine. Every dish was incredible by every measure. Textures were a hit, sauce flavours were mouth-watering, & the dishes were very innovative (popcorn w/ corn sauce, cucumber spheres). The pork belly was the best I've ever tasted - tender, juicy, fat exploding with flavour. The cocktails & wine we had were equally tasty.
Some minor service lapses - dish explanations with little enthusiasm & a forgotten wine pairing with a dish. Despite this, the quality of the dishes easily stood out & we can't wait to return.
Farm to table style. Food is impeccably presented & the service is outstanding. Great ambience, delicious food & an extensive wine list. Dishes are customisable accordimg to dietary preferences. Highly recommended.
