After crossing the expansive Saint Lawrence River by ferry & feeling quite hungry, we sought a new dining experience instead of our usual spot. As we wandered through the charming streets of lower Quebec City, we were drawn to this quaint bistro, distinguished by its pristine glass window & inviting atmosphere, conveniently located near the ferry docks on Rue des Jardins, Quebec. Upon entering, we were warmly welcomed by Marguerite, our server, who introduced us to the elegantly designed space that exuded a modern yet cozy ambiance. With only one other couple present, we settled into comfortable leather chairs, where Marguerite presented us with the menu, offering detailed descriptions of each dish. We opted for the sweet potato soup as an appetizer, which was light & flavorful, followed by an impeccably cooked 8-ounce flank steak served with homemade peppercorn sauce, matchstick fries, & a fresh mixed green salad. For dessert, Marguerite recommended the exquisite black cherry & spice crème brûlée, which exceeded our expectations with its delightful flavours. The entire dining experience, from the attentive service of Marguerite to the meticulous preparation of each dish, was exceptional, showcasing the undeniable talent of the chef. We wholeheartedly recommend Alphonse Cuisine & Cocktails to anyone seeking a memorable culinary experience.
My curling team spent 6 nights in Quebec for a big tournament. We had reserved Alphonse for the first night of our stay & loved it so much we went back later in the week for lunch! Ambiance is wonderful. Food is excellent. Service is amazing. We were so happy - & we recommended the resto to several of our curling friends during the week. If it's on the menu when you visit, you have to try the mushroom ravioli.... WOW. We will be back next year!!!
On Christmas Day we were able to get a table for 6 people. A small hidden gem because the service & food was excellent! Espresso martinis on point, French onion soup was cup size & perfect as an appetizer. I ordered the mushroom ravioli, BEST ravioli I have ever had. Amazing!!! Friends got the burger & fries, they said it was so delicious! Fries were perfectly seasoned & cooked, thin sliced & enjoyed every fry. Our server was awesome & excellent service. Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed.
Souper de Noël avec mon comité de gestion de 12 personnes. Personnel souriant & gentil. Repas excellent & vaste choix au menu. Bel endroit. Je recommande.
This was, unfortunately, one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in over 20 years in the food industry.
This was our first visit. We arrived as a party of 16 (four families with children) & were immediately treated rudely by the staff. We were told they would not serve us properly because we were a'large group' & were only offered a very limited menu. We explained multiple times that we were willing to split into smaller groups of four & sit separately to accommodate the restaurant. This solution was refused without a clear explanation.
What made this especially frustrating is that other parties of four or five were being seated & served the full menu without issue. If the restaurant had limited food availability or staffing concerns, we would have completely understood & were even willing to wait longer for our meals. However, the issue was clearly the size of our group, not availability.
We spoke with the manager on duty & again offered to wait, but the only food they were willing to serve was pasta & fries for the children. At that point, we considered leaving, but our kids were already seated, tired from traveling, & hungry.
It is also misleading to advertise a full menu at the entrance while restricting it once guests arrive. This is not good business practice & creates unnecessary frustration for customers.
Based on this experience, I would not recommend this restaurant. In most places, owners & staff are appreciative of customers & eager to provide service. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. This was a very disappointing experience.
Très belle découverte! Nourriture excellente ambiance décontractée personnel en or
Je recommande fortement ce resto.
Bonne cuisine, bon service & bel ambiance.
