While in Quebec City, this restaurant became our favorite. The food is amazing! The wine is perfect. & the service is exceptional! We highly recommend this comfortable dining experience.
Un bel endroit pour une date que ce soit au bar ou aux tables. Service precis, rapide. Bel endroit avec les clins d'oeil & rappels a l'ancienne caisse Desjardins.
Service was from various servers & it took a long time to receive our food as did other patrons in the restaurant. The food was ok. I had a risotto with shrimp & the risotto was crunchy & had only three shrimp.

I had their french onion soup one day & a few paper plane cocktails, simply delicious, & the next I went back & had their shrimp rolls, also delicious. I highly recommend. (There's only one roll in the photo because I was eating the other 😆)
Our server Lea was very helpful. She knew her wine & recommended an awesome bottle. That's where the'awesome' stopped.
They were out of the starter my husband selected. He then ordered the pork croquettes. It was very dry & did not have a sauce. Lea brought us some. The salad accompanying my appetizer & his were literally not dressed. Dry salad out of a bag. Zero creativity, zero flavour.
I had the spaghetti carbonara. It was fine. My husband ordered the braised beef dish. The potatoes were bland, lacking salt. Otherwise just fine.
The brownies were more of a mousse & not typical brownie.
The raspberry tart was just a mush. More of a cake, not a tart.
All in all, disappointing & would not come back.
It seems by the patrons in the restaurant, the management relies heavily on tourists whereby most don't return anyway.
Too bad because the servers were well trained & very helpful.
Our evening here was top tier, in every respect. Our server was Léa, & she did an amazing job of anticipating our every need. She had a number of tables to manage & it felt like our experience was her only concern. (Thank you, Léa, for the wine suggestion. It was perfect.)
We started with the nachos with beef brisket BBQ. It was fine, but I would not order that again. The dish was fine & presented well. But we come from the land of BBQ & Tex-Mex & it didn't live up to what we are used to. The chef's'Inspiration du Moment' was very good. Grilled pork paired with seared scallops, local strawberries, grilled naan, & more. It was creative, beautiful, delicious, obviously fresh & surprising. Our party also ordered the steak & fries & it was done to perfection.
We happened to be there on a night that was cool & calm, & the restaurants large windows were open, bringing the outside in. Adding the street sounds & the close proximity of the pedestrian traffic made it feel like an intimate sidewalk Cafe, though we were inside. Overall, the restaurant delivered an exceptional experience.
After many trips to Quebec city this was my first time stopping at Alphonse & it did not disappoint! I enjoyed a fabulous salad with halloumi & melon, topped with a bright & flavorful orange vinaigrette - every dish was clearly chef-inspired. From my seat, I could see the back kitchen & prep station, & it was impressive how meticulous & organized everything was.
Food was decent. Small portions but expensive. My steak was undercooked. Good quality though. Nice atmosphere. Service was okay. Two drinks, an appetizer & two entrees 150$.
