I felt this restaurant was underrated. No, it is not'michelin', but it was for us an excellent meal with excellent service in a very old building in Q C. If authentic food & friendly service is your thing, give them a try.
Stumbled into Aux Anciens Canadiens after a long morning walking the old city walls, & it ended up being the highlight of my Quebec trip. The tourtière was remarkably well-executed - deeply savory, with a flaky crust that held together the kind of filling most places can't pull off without it tasting heavy. The dining room itself, set inside one of the oldest houses on Rue Saint-Louis, has this wonderful low-ceiling warmth that feels genuinely historic rather than manufactured for tourists. Service was unhurried & knowledgeable, which I always appreciate when I'm somewhere new & want to actually understand what I'm eating.
The best customer service I've experienced in Canada. Food is quite bland tho
Top tier service, wonderful food, great atmosphere, strongly recommend.
The service was exceptional & the staff were very kind, which made for a great experience overall. However, the food was fairly average, especially for the price, & it felt a bit overpriced for what you get. In the end, it seems like you're paying more for the experience than for the quality of the meal itself.
Seriously the best meal we've had in years!
I originally posted this ages ago & my thoughts stand. I'm updating with a pic of today's food.
My parents visited here 50 years ago & loved the experience. Our first time to Quebec City we made it a point to stop. We loved the experience , the food choices, staff , & overall experience. You'll not be disappointed if you visit for a meal.
