The beef cheek & potatoes were out of this world. I would drive all the way back to Quebec City to have more of those mashed potatoes. Humble but sophisticated. The atmosphere is cozy, & service prompt, knowledgeable & kind (Camille).
My boyfriend & I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experiences here! We loved the food so much the first night, we made two more reservations in the same week to come back! We were in search of an authentic Québécois dining experience. We love the character & authenticity of the space itself - the stone walls & rustic charm, the original fireplace, the wood beams. It was warm, cozy, romantic, & made us feel at home. We also had eating restrictions & we greatly appreciated that these were easily accommodated. The food is absolutely delicious - I had the beef cheek main dish every night. The last night I had it, it was truly spectacular. It was especially delicious with the Pinot Noir. There is so much heart in this establishment, I could feel it radiating - it emanates from the kitchen, & the walls & floors of the place itself. There are regulars who come here often & it was wonderful to feel the warm relationships many of them have with Bistro St. Malo. There is a sense of presence. Bistro St. Malo is a special place filled with warmth, laughter, stories, celebrations, & memories of the past. My recommendation - make a reservation to ensure that you can visit this fine dining establishment - this is a very popular restaurant in the old port of Québec City! Eating dinner here was one of the best parts of our trip - Merci Beaucoup! xx
Bistro St.Malo is a gem of a restaurant with an inviting, family-style atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. We enjoyed the beef cheek, slow-cooked sous-vide for over 30 hours, & the duck confit-both were extraordinary. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender with deep, rich flavors, while the duck was perfectly crispy on the outside & juicy on the inside. The warm ambiance & attentive service tied everything together for an exceptional dining experience. A must-visit for anyone who loves incredible food in a cozy, welcoming setting! Will definitely come back. Thanks Phil & Zach!

We stumbled upon this Bistro for a nightcap & realized that we found a jewel, not just the ambiance but staff as well. The following night, we returned for our last meal before our vacation was over. The food was exquisite, the staff makes you feel like family, & Chef/owner Phillipe is remarkably talented. We had the beef cheeks, pasta carbonara & French onion soup. Camille, who served us - you are a true joy & anyone who meets you will realize this. We can't recommend this restaurant highly enough!!!
Such a cute & cozy bistro! The staff was attentive even though it was very busy & the food was delicious. We had a French onion soup, seafood stew, beef cheeks & the duck along with a pitcher of sangrias. All the dishes were delightful.
Wonderful experience at this restaurant & the food was very tasty. We ordered the French onion soup (quite a big serving for the starter size), tuna tartare, the seafood stew (amazing!) & the apple tart (so big we couldn't finish it). I would definitely order the soup again & the beef cheek looked amazing too! The food was delicious & we were definitely not hungry after this meal! Service was impeccable & food came out quickly.
We spent 3 days in Quebec & had many a good meal, but the one at Bistro St. Malo was the best. The Beef Cheek Bourguignonne was so tender & flavorful with a delicious gravy. The root vegetables were well cooked & still had just the right amount of crunch in them. I had to order the bread so I could sop up every bit of gravy on my plate. My wife had the Seafood Stew & was just as pleased. The staff was very helpful in recommending what to order. Service was cheerful & friendly. We will definitely return the next time we visit Quebec.
What an all encompassing delight of a dining experience. 10/10 across the board. Camille, our server, had the best recommendations. The food & wine were exceptional. Try the beef cheek! Make a reservation! Spend all of your money here.
Struggled to decide what to have for dinner because, honestly, everything on the menu looks incredible. Ended up with a French onion soup & tuna tartare starter, both fantastic. For mains, I had the beef cheek, & no word of a lie, beef will never taste the same again to me. It was without question, the best beef I've ever tasted. 30 hour sous vide for the win. My family also had the cassoulet (duck leg was pretty special) & carbonara (bonus points for the quail egg). I'm not going to say that we drove all the way from Ottawa just to eat here, but I will say that when I get a craving for beef cheek - which is bound to happen now that I've tasted the beef of the gods - this place will be worth the drive. Camille also gets bonus points for knowing exactly how much wine one needs (i.e. more) & being a lovely server.
Beef cheek was 4.5 out of 5. Very tender but perhaps not too flavorful. Duck confit tasted like one of those turkey legs in Disney world. Oversalted, artificially red & precooked in bulk. Costco precooked duck leg tastes better. It is 2.5 out of 5. Side salad was 5 out of 5. IPA beer is also amazing. Tastes more like Belgian wheat with minimal bitternes . Service & environment are all gvery good.
