Very luckily we walked in & BSM found us a table upstairs. Florence was exceptional in helping us make some fine choices from the menu. Delightful! Following a French 75 & Negroni, we ate Onion Soup, Beef Cheeks & the Seafood Bisque accompanied by Florence's'spot-on' wine recommendation. As a final treat we took the Tarte Tatin, amazing! What a find! Thank you Florence!
Wonderful evening at Bistro St Malo, escargots for starter that was a bit different than the standard with a wonderful cheese melted on top. We opted for the'Heavenly Thursday' special & enjoyed Osso Bucco & a lovely rabbit dish served over a cheesy risotto. Along with a glass of excellent Bordeaux. Ended with a crème brûlée & a sparkling sweet wine with a lovely peach flavor. Our server was wonderful & we enjoyed everything, including the small dining room upstairs. Perfect evening. Thank you to the staff & owners of Bistro St Malo.
french onion soup was superb. ceviche was not to our taste but wasn't bad. duck confit & the seafood stew were pretty good too. huge selection of wine. my only complaint would be the creme brulee was too sweet, custard too watery, & the caramel layer was too thick. otherwise everything was wonderful. the service was a delight!

Had the mussels, they were tiny but fresh & the garlic wine sauce was simple & decent enough due to the good taste of the mussels. The beef cheek meal for $44+tax was super expensive & had a strong gamey taste, it sat beside a very salty concoction of mash potato sauce & broiled carrot & 3 green beans. It was very soft(being cooked for 30 hrs) but in my opinion, it was not a hit with me. A side of salad ,a very small bowl, with 7 tiny pieces of lettuce & some slices of pickles & carrot slivers costed $12 plus tax..not anywhere near a proper salad...a convenience store type would have been much better. There was absence of dressing...tasted like the pickle water.
Restaurant is really cute & cozy. The food was good & felt homestyle with fresh ingredients. $30 Thursday promo was great (main plus wine/beer for $30). We felt it would have been nice to have bread at the table to start, & also to have with our mains. I ordered Ossobucco which was good but very soupy. Again the bread would have been a nice addition. My wife ordered Phil's Carbonara which was delicious. It had lots of peameal bacon. All food was portioned well, we struggled to finish it all.
The food was done very well, with mussels, beef tongue, seafood, dessert & the place has a friendly vibe...unfortunately I was served a fridge cold glass of red wine & cannot give it a 5 in good conscience. While it is common in the industry to preserve open wine in the fridge overnight, to serve it this cold is a fauxpas. It should have been brought much closer to room temperature before being offered or served. When I mentioned it, I was offered an apology. I suggest you ask about the wine's temperature before ordering, that being said, they have a very good wine list.
One of our best meals for a good while. Mrs H loves a good mussel, & these apparently were right up there with the best she's had. The beef cheek was magnificent, accompanied by a splendid Bordeaux, one of many wines in an extensive & impressive wine list.
This place is perfect. The french soup was the best my wife & I ever had. We were treated so well by our waiter who brought us some maple syrup to try at the end of our dinner (as well as dessert wine). The food was phenomenal. The atmosphere was cozy. We cannot wait to come back.
Absolutely superb! Came here with my partner on a Sunday night. We made a reservation because we knew we wanted to come here. Really cozy & friendly atmosphere with great food & lovely staff. As a tourist, I got the sense we were amongst many regulars, enjoying a nice meal over wine with their loved ones :).
We sincerely enjoyed everything we had, which was the ravioli appetizer, the fois gras, mussels in marinière (half portion, still 1 pound so plenty!), cassoulet, & the crème brûlée. The cassoulet was our absolute favorite - so fresh & absolutely delicious. The duck meat fell right off the bone & was seasoned so perfectly. We savored every bite.
The staff was so kind they gave us complimentary glasses of amaretto to enjoy with our crème brûlée. Merci beaucoup! We can't wait to come back!!
We didn't make reservation, walked in at around 7:30pm.
They served authentic french cuisines. I ordered grilled poulet with fries & an mussel dish, 5 out of 5.
Their wine hit because the vibe of the place making it 5 out of 5.
The servers were friendly, 5 out of 5.
Highly recommended!
