One of the best meals I've ever had. Incredible escargot, duck, & tarte tatin. Wonderful service from Camille. Cozy & intimate atmosphere with a full view of the incredible chef. Delightful experience!
Our experience at Bistro St-Malo in Old Quebec was nothing short of exceptional. We dined on the lovely terrace & were treated to superior food crafted by an incredibly talented chef, Philippe, who even took the time to check in on our group-an appreciated & personal touch.
Every dish was thoughtful & beautifully balanced. The striped bass ceviche with grapefruit, vanilla, jalapenos, & radish was bright, elegant, & bursting with fresh flavor. The foie gras served with French brioche & a champagne & cassis jam was rich & luxurious-an absolute standout.
But the star of the evening was the joue de boeuf sauce Robert, slow-cooked sous-vide for 30 hours, served with a baked-potato-style purée & vegetables sautéed in duck fat. It was deeply flavorful & melt-in-your-mouth tender-a true showcase of culinary mastery.
A fantastic meal in a beautiful setting, with warm service & unforgettable food. Bistro St-Malo is a must-visit in Quebec City!
Absolutely superb! Came here with my partner on a Sunday night. We made a reservation because we knew we wanted to come here. Really cozy & friendly atmosphere with great food & lovely staff. As a tourist, I got the sense we were amongst many regulars, enjoying a nice meal over wine with their loved ones :).
We sincerely enjoyed everything we had, which was the ravioli appetizer, the fois gras, mussels in marinière (half portion, still 1 pound so plenty!), cassoulet, & the crème brûlée. The cassoulet was our absolute favorite - so fresh & absolutely delicious. The duck meat fell right off the bone & was seasoned so perfectly. We savored every bite.
The staff was so kind they gave us complimentary glasses of amaretto to enjoy with our crème brûlée. Merci beaucoup! We can't wait to come back!!

Bistro St.Malo is a gem of a restaurant with an inviting, family-style atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. We enjoyed the beef cheek, slow-cooked sous-vide for over 30 hours, & the duck confit-both were extraordinary. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender with deep, rich flavors, while the duck was perfectly crispy on the outside & juicy on the inside. The warm ambiance & attentive service tied everything together for an exceptional dining experience. A must-visit for anyone who loves incredible food in a cozy, welcoming setting! Will definitely come back. Thanks Phil & Zach!
This place may have been the star of our trip. They run a special on Thursdays, where you get a entrée & a beer for around 30 bucks. My wife had carbonara & I had a duck casserole, both were extremely good. The staff were really nice & we had a great time at the restaurant.
Such a cute & cozy bistro! The staff was attentive even though it was very busy & the food was delicious. We had a French onion soup, seafood stew, beef cheeks & the duck along with a pitcher of sangrias. All the dishes were delightful.
I was looking to have a special meal while in old Quebec City. I thought of having something with duck confit, but was happily diverted, by my server Andrea, to try a seafood stew instead. Ragoût de la Mer. It contained only seafood, unlike some places where they add potatoes & other fillers. Andrea helped pair my meal with a glass of Sauvignon blanc that made the stew that much more special. Lastly, she tempted me with dessert, which I didn't think I had room for, but found it, especially as it was one of my favourites - creme brûlée! It was the softest & silkiest of creams & the caramel thick & crunchy. I've found most creme brûlées are more like custard, but this one was thick delicious cream, made with amaretto. This meal was a bit of a splurge, but so worth it. On top of else, I had an outdoor table & felt as if I was in Paris again.
Struggled to decide what to have for dinner because, honestly, everything on the menu looks incredible. Ended up with a French onion soup & tuna tartare starter, both fantastic. For mains, I had the beef cheek, & no word of a lie, beef will never taste the same again to me. It was without question, the best beef I've ever tasted. 30 hour sous vide for the win. My family also had the cassoulet (duck leg was pretty special) & carbonara (bonus points for the quail egg). I'm not going to say that we drove all the way from Ottawa just to eat here, but I will say that when I get a craving for beef cheek - which is bound to happen now that I've tasted the beef of the gods - this place will be worth the drive. Camille also gets bonus points for knowing exactly how much wine one needs (i.e. more) & being a lovely server.
Beef cheek was 4.5 out of 5. Very tender but perhaps not too flavorful. Duck confit tasted like one of those turkey legs in Disney world. Oversalted, artificially red & precooked in bulk. Costco precooked duck leg tastes better. It is 2.5 out of 5. Side salad was 5 out of 5. IPA beer is also amazing. Tastes more like Belgian wheat with minimal bitternes . Service & environment are all gvery good.
