Review Summary

Le Lapin Sauté is widely celebrated as a charming, cozy, and quintessential destination in Old Quebec City, particularly favored for its authentic rabbit and duck specialties. Many visitors praise the restaurant for its warm, welcoming staff, impeccable service, and a picturesque patio perfect for people watching in the Petit Champlain district. While the majority of diners highlight the high quality of dishes like the rabbit poutine, cassoulet, and salted honey pie, some guests have noted inconsistencies in food preparation, occasional service delays, or a preference for larger portion sizes. Despite the high demand making reservations essential, most guests consider it a must-visit venue that captures a unique, intimate atmosphere suitable for families and romantic outings alike.

It's a very cozy & busy place. Definitely make a reservation. Lots of people were turned away due to no reservation.
The host was friendly & seated us quickly even though we were quite warmly for our reservation
The waitresses were helpful & friendly.
I give 4 stars rather than 5 because we had the sampler for two people. While most of it was tasty, it was too small a serving for two people & the price.
The French onion soup was really nice.
It's got a great atmosphere.
I'll definitely return when I'm back in Quebec

I was eagerly anticipating dining at this restaurant, drawn to its local, specialized, & cozy ambiance—the kind I prefer most. Despite the bustling Christmas season in Quebec City, I was fortunate to secure a table. To my delight, every aspect of our experience surpassed expectations.

The friendly staff warmly welcomed us & treated us to their incredible mulled wine. The French onion soup was truly delectable, setting the tone for our meal. Acting on our waitress's suggestion, we opted for the rabbit & duck platter, which offered an assortment of both cold & hot dishes—an excellent choice. The waitress remained attentive & helpful throughout, enhancing our overall experience.

Remarkably, the bill was surprisingly reasonable, considering the quality & enjoyment we received.

Service was excellent.Ambience was excellent. Most of the food was very good. French onion soup was excellent. Cassoulet was poor: beans way overcooked & mushy, too much bean liquid, dish needed herbs & was very bland. For desserts, honey pie was very good.

a quaint & cozy restaurant. would recommend making reservations ahead of time. i was lucky to get a table walking in on a monday evening. food wise, everyone says french onion soup was good but maybe it’s just not my thing. it was lukewarm, which is a bit weird. & it was too salty. for the warm salad with rabbit kidneys & livers, i liked everyone in this dish except for the rabbit livers & kidneys. but it’s probably just me, not on the restaurant. however i cannot imagine better purée / dressing & potatoes for this salad, very tasty, light in flavor profile but good portion for the stomach! the salad itself is worth a 5/5.

We were looking for something very French to try this time visiting Quebec City. & we found this. Overall a nice experience. The service was good. The decor was so nice & wonderful it added so much to the experience. Plus it is located at a very quaint street with lots of beautiful buildings & little stores. We didn’t have a reservation. It was Friday supper time. We arrived early & only had to wait for less than 10 minutes to get a table. We took that time & had a stroll on the street. They texted us when the table was ready which was very nice.
Now the food. Based on the reviews we wanted to try the duck & rabbit platter which included everything we wanted to try as in the photo. Everything else was so tasty including the sliced duck meat. But the duck & rabbit meat (second photo) were just so so. It was plain & a bit dry. I understand rabbit meat is very lean. So I guess it is what it is. The original flavor & texture. The platter is 74 dollars (or around 74 ) if I remembered correctly. It is definitely one of the most expensive meals I had. Also compared to the portion of the meal. Which was pretty small. Overall not the one of most impressive meals I had.
