About

Le Lapin Sauté centers its culinary focus on regional French preparations featuring rabbit as a signature element. The menu emphasizes locally sourced ingredients transformed through classic market cooking techniques. Diners encounter dishes like rabbit confit and braised cuts that showcase depth of flavor and traditional preparation methods. The architectural space utilizes exposed stone walls and wooden beams to define the interior atmosphere. Tables occupy a rustic environment that reflects a historical regional building style. The selection of poultry and game selections provides a cohesive narrative centered on seasonal offerings and farm to table sensibilities. Every plate maintains a strict adherence to authentic regional standards by highlighting the versatility of game meat in modern kitchen applications.

Review Summary

Le Lapin Sauté is widely celebrated as a charming, cozy, and quintessential destination in Old Quebec City, particularly favored for its authentic rabbit and duck specialties. Many visitors praise the restaurant for its warm, welcoming staff, impeccable service, and a picturesque patio perfect for people watching in the Petit Champlain district. While the majority of diners highlight the high quality of dishes like the rabbit poutine, cassoulet, and salted honey pie, some guests have noted inconsistencies in food preparation, occasional service delays, or a preference for larger portion sizes. Despite the high demand making reservations essential, most guests consider it a must-visit venue that captures a unique, intimate atmosphere suitable for families and romantic outings alike.

Amazing! Two of us enjoyed delicious rabbit entree & French Onion soup & it was fabulous! Neither of us have had rabbit before but we took a chance & loved it. The soup was incredible as well.
Service was delightful & the outdoor seating was quaint & lovely. We would highly recommend this restaurant to friends & family.

Rabbit was overcooked & very dry. Vegetables were also a bit of a mess. The tables were so close I could have eaten my neighbors dinner. Not to worry however as it didn't look any better than mine. Onion soup was a poor presentation of the French standard.

Quaint & cozy restaurant for Dinner. Great for couples but not or two pair but not larger groups. The rabbit, duck, French onion soup & the selection of drinks were very good.

Cozy restaurant with friendly staff. The food is good. We had the saddle of rabbit & rabbit pot pie as mains & both were delicious. Appetizers of smoked duck & the onion soup were also good.

French onion soup was delightful. Husband enjoyed his rabbit pot pie & sugar pie. I'm not fond of meat & game so I can't comment appropriately.

Some of the best food I have ever had. The onion soup & rabbit pot pie were outstanding! A full week of dining all around Quebec City, we had some amazing meals. This was the best.

This is my FAVORITE restaurant in Quebec City. I booked it a month ago for four persons & the day before we had to cancel for two. I love sitting outside because the night air was wonderful & there was someone playing keyboard in the park adjacent to the restaurant.
We had French Onion soup & the "Discover Quebec" entrees. My fiancé is not an adventurous diner so she enjoyed the soup & the Quebec cheese. I had smoked salmon, pate, shredded rabbit & roasted garlic. Our server was a very sweet (but sometimes forgetful) young lady who made everything perfect.
It is still my favorite restaurant & each time I return, I'll look forward to a great meal.
Make reservations early.

We loved it--the restaurant & the food. Yes, we were a little anxious about a heavy-on-rabbit menu, but my sister-in-law raves about La Lapin Saute, eats there every chance she gets, & ordered/commanded/urged us to "at least give it a try," & we're very happy we did. Got the last two reservations available on our last night in Quebec City. Phew! Friendly staff, great ambience, & wonderful food. Enjoyed a mixed platter appetizer, onion soup, rabbit pot pies, & creme brule. Saddest part? The meal came to an end. Hope to return someday.
